Climbing at Washington Pass is nothing short of a magical experience, which is why sharing the experience with guests is the highlight of my summer.

Picture this you wake up the @northcascadesmtnhostel , swing by the @mazamastore to pick up an espresso and danish for breakfast, before heading up to the mountains. After a beautiful hike filled with sprouting wildflowers, mountain goats, and stunning views, you find yourself surrounded by some of the finest alpine rock in the state. You begin ascending the beautiful granite, swimming up one of the many alluring cracks and big alpine features that extend into the sky. Before you know it you are hundreds of feet in the air, appreciating the view that only those who have ventured to climb have the privilege to experience. You sit in awe, appreciating the rugged landscape, surrounded by the impressive granite spires and alpine peaks that fill the range. On your way back down you feel that sense of bliss only found from that perfect balance of adventure, support, and connection to the natural world. After a short stop at the river for a dip you boogie down to the @mazamapub to celebrate over a beverage reveling in the magic of the Methow Valley.

The West Ridge of Forbidden in North Cascades National Park is such a classic! Wild exposure, solid rock, and a beautiful ridge combine to make this an amazing climb. Not to mention a steep snow couloir, a moderate glacier, and a high alpine camp in a pristine basin to round out the quality of this trip. There are no easy routes up Forbidden, which makes the summit all the sweeter.

Guides @tavrsh @kylpratt and @jeff_ward_guide all had various successful climbs on Forbidden this past week. 🤩

We continue to climb this beauty into early September as weather and permits allow. If you’re looking for guaranteed dates in 2027, reach out by the end of winter to get set up!

Sometimes an iffy weather forecast can work in your favor. We had the upper mountain all to ourselves in the middle of July. We left camp in a whiteout but the clouds parted when we reached the summit pyramid. by @ncmountainguides

Black Peak via the NE Ridge is a fun climb up one of the highest non-volcanic mountains in the Cascades. With moderately easy climbing, a beautiful varied approach, and panoramic summit views, it really can’t be beat.

It has been such a beautiful spring climbing season and has felt so good to be back out on WA Pass and Goat wall connecting with the mountains and some fantastic people!

Terry Tempest Williams said “What do we wish? — To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.”

Make sure you prioritize connection with friends in a beautiful place this spring, it fills the soul!

Alpine huts teetering on the edge of big glaciers, long alpine days, warm delicious meals, dessert every night. Oh, and of course getting to ski the most famous traverse in Europe! The stoke was high for our international trips this spring. Huge thanks to our guests who always bring the good vibes.
