Helping create better outcomes for missing, exploited, & trafficked children.
🛡️ FIND + LISTEN + HELP
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
21 endangered missing children located in Southwest Florida.

This week, law enforcement, child protection professionals, nonprofit organizations, technology partners, and community advocates came together with a common goal: to find and help vulnerable kids.

Children were connected with medical care. Safe placements were identified. Families received support. Community organizations stepped in to help meet immediate needs and create opportunities for greater stability moving forward.

And in some cases, the most important outcome wasn’t a service or a resource—it was a second chance.

For kids who had been defined by a case file, a warrant, or a history of running away, this week created space to see the whole child and build a different path forward.

This week was a powerful reminder that protecting children is never the responsibility of one agency or one organization.

When law enforcement, advocates, service providers, and community partners come together like this, children gain access to opportunities and support that no single organization can provide alone.

Since launching Missing Child Rescue Operations in 2024, this model has helped locate 218 missing children nationwide. And we’re not stopping anytime soon.

Every missing child is endangered.
Every child deserves experts searching for them.
And every child deserves a community ready to help when they are found.

A Missing Child Rescue Operation is not a conference.
It is not a meeting about the problem.
It is a search for endangered missing children happening in real time.

Cases being worked. Leads being followed. Technology being used. Law enforcement, analysts, and private-sector partners all focused on the same thing: finding missing children.

That is why this work matters.
197 children have been located through NCPTF Missing Child Rescue Operations to date.
And we are not done.

Every missing child is endangered until they are found.

The match is active. This is the moment to double the search, double the resources, and help find endangered missing children.

We can find them. You can help. ≫ ncptf.org/donate by @ncptf

34 missing kids located through this week’s Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation.
202 across New York in 24 months.

Behind those numbers are investigators who kept looking, advocates ready when kids were found, and 40 agencies and organizations who showed up around one shared purpose: finding and helping vulnerable youth.

So proud to work alongside the @nysdcjs Missing Persons Clearinghouse, @childrenandfamilyservices, @nystatepolice, and every individual who dedicated their time and attention in Long Island this week—and deeply grateful to @timtebowfoundation, @thejensenproject, Answer the Call, and every supporter who makes it possible for us to bring this work into communities at no cost to participating agencies. ❤️ taken in Long Island, NY by @ncptf

#NYSOCFS was honored to co-lead the Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation alongside @nysdcjs and the National Child Protection Task Force (@ncptf). With support from @nyspolice and 100+ professionals, the operation located 34 missing children and teens and connected them with services.

"I am so proud of OCFS’s partnership with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the National Child Protection Task Force to facilitate our state’s fourth successful Missing Child Operation (MCO). I am also grateful to @govkathyhochul for her ongoing support for vulnerable young people who need our compassion and assistance as they face complex challenges such as human trafficking and homelessness. The Missing Child Operation is unique in that it is much more than a targeted law enforcement operation. The goal is to offer a different type of intervention so that youth will be met with safety, choice and options. OCFS’s aim is to reduce future missing episodes by helping youth understand the resources available to them and by supporting our partners in offering different responses to youth.” ~@nysocfscommissioner Harris-Madden

A Missing Child Rescue Operation only lasts a few days. Getting a community ready for one takes months of coordinated effort.

Long before our team arrives, cases are being reviewed. Law enforcement and child-serving agencies are coordinating. Partners are being activated. Staffing, technology, travel, recovery support, and dozens of other details are being worked through behind the scenes by people across multiple states.

The work starts with getting the right people around a community’s unresolved missing child cases — investigators, analysts, advocates, social workers, child welfare professionals, and partners with the expertise and resources to help move those cases forward.

Then, for a few days, the pace accelerates.

Investigators pursue leads. Analysts turn scattered information into actionable intelligence. Private-sector partners help remove delays that can slow a search down. Response teams make contact with endangered youth. And advocates and social workers help make sure that when a child is found, someone is ready to listen, understand what they need, and connect them with meaningful support.

Our next operation is less than 30 days away — in a community we’ve never served before.

And right now, we need our community behind us.

Your support puts teams of experts in communities to help find endangered missing children.

When a child runs away again and again, we don’t just ask, “Where did they go?”

We also ask: What is pushing them away — or what is pulling them somewhere else?

We pay close attention to push and pull factors because repeated runaway behavior rarely happens without context.

Push factors are the conditions a child may be trying to escape: instability, conflict, abuse, neglect, mental health issues, unmet needs, or an environment they do not experience as safe.

Pull factors are the things drawing them elsewhere: want for connection, belonging, independence, survival, relationships — and, in some cases, people willing to exploit those needs.

Understanding those factors matters because finding a child answers one urgent question: Where are they?

It does not necessarily answer the next one: What needs to change so this child has a better chance at safety and stability?

That is why we work to bring child advocates, social workers, child welfare professionals, and other community partners into the response alongside law enforcement. Finding a missing child is critical. Listening to what their disappearance is telling us can help a community create new opportunities for healing after they're found.

Find + Listen + Help. Because every time a child runs, they are crying for help.

It takes hundreds of people working together to make a Missing Child Rescue Operation possible. But lasting impact depends on the people and organizations already serving children in that community.

That is why we intentionally involve social workers, child welfare professionals, advocates, and local nonprofits from the beginning. Their knowledge, relationships, and continued presence help create better outcomes for the children we locate — not only during the operation, but long after our team leaves.

They help us better understand what a child may need when they are found, support meaningful intervention in the moment, and carry that understanding forward within the systems responsible for serving them.

Finding a child matters deeply. But lasting transformation happens when the community is prepared to find, listen, and help — both during the operation and long after we leave.

We’re grateful for the advocacy partners like @anasfriendsswfl who stood alongside us in Southwest Florida earlier this year and continue showing up for vulnerable kids every day. by @ncptf

Missing Child Rescue Operations are intense.

Long days. Difficult cases. Very little sleep. Decisions carrying real weight.

But one thing we never want to lose sight of is this: for the law enforcement officers, social workers, advocates, and child protection professionals beside us, the sacrifice doesn’t begin when an operation starts—or end when we pack up the command center.

This is their everyday work.

It’s late-night calls and missed dinners. Cases that follow them home. Children they keep thinking about long after a shift ends. Families they are trying to support while also carrying responsibilities to their own.

And then they come back the next day and keep showing up for young people who need their expertise, care, and commitment.

We get to see an extraordinary concentration of that dedication during a Missing Child Rescue Operation. But every community we enter is filled with people doing difficult, deeply human work for vulnerable children every single day—and that deserves to be recognized.

We have enormous respect for the professionals who keep choosing to care, keep looking for better answers, and keep showing up for young people who need someone to do exactly that.

Thank you, protectors. 💙

Our next operation launches soon. Help us remind the protectors in our next community that their work is seen and deeply appreciated: https://ncptf.org/protector by @ncptf

A young person can choose to leave—and still be in very real danger. That distinction matters.

When we reduce a missing child to the word “runaway,” we risk overlooking what may have happened before they left: abuse, conflict, instability, grooming, exploitation, unmet needs, mental health struggles, or simply the belief that somewhere else might feel better in the moment.

Once kids go missing, their vulnerabilities only deepen.

The better question isn’t simply, “Did they leave on their own?”

It’s: What pushed them away—or what pulled them toward danger?

Understanding those factors helps communities find missing young people faster, respond to exploitation and trafficking with greater urgency and compassion, and provide stronger interventions when kids are found.

Every missing child is endangered until they’re found.

We’re looking for a unicorn. 🦄
We know it.

NCPTF is hiring a Communications Lead for a 100% remote role with the opportunity to occasionally deploy alongside our team for Missing Child Rescue Operations across the country.

And the person we’re looking for is just as uncommon as the role itself.

We're looking for someone who can shape a campaign and write the copy. Build the messaging and design the assets. Elevate social media, help shape strategy, and translate complex, sensitive work into communications that are clear, beautiful, accurate, trauma-informed, and deeply human.

We’re looking for a communications generalist with exceptional creative range and the ability to move seamlessly between social, brand, campaigns, and strategy. We’re a small national nonprofit, and we need a creative communicator who genuinely loves both the big idea and making the big idea happen. (It’s a big ask. We know that.)

But for the right person, it’s also a rare opportunity to do meaningful creative work from anywhere, help shape the next chapter of a growing national organization, and step inside the mission you’re communicating about alongside our team on deployments.

A strong creative portfolio is required. We want to see what you have written, designed, built, and brought to life.

If this sounds like you, we’d really like to meet you.
