An annual daily challenge in the month of October for native artists to collectively make art around daily themes.
POSTS STORIES REELS
Welcome to Day 1 of NDNArtober! Today’s theme is tattoo! We welcome all indigenous folks to take part in this challenge. The prompts are open ended and the fun is to see how folks interpret them from their personal, regional, tribal, and clan perspectives and styles. While this challenge has the option of 31 prompts, we encourage folks to check out the caption of the #ndnartober2026 prompt list to see various ways you can approach this challenge to make it fun and sustainable for you. There is no way to “fail” the ndnartober challenge - except using AI. Each day we feature the creative works folks make for the daily prompts. Since the theme changes daily, folks have till 11:59pm cst if they’d like their work featured in our stories. This year we will also do our best to repost as well. Additionally, strong encouragement to tag us directly on the piece. When you’re uploading your piece, click the button to tag people and tag @ndnartober. Our three facilitators will be able to see it even if a ton of notifications pop up that would other wise bury it cuz it’ll show up in the tagged section of our profile. Your piece being there also makes it easier to find and feature on our main feed the next morning and into the future when we feature works of the past. We want to encourage everyone make work - no matter how frequently or how simple or complex. We’re always excited to see it! Also be sure to follow and comment and share other folks work! This is a great time to support one another, find new favorite art & artists, make friends, and along the way show the world and each other who we are. Thank you to everyone participating or plans to participate- and those of you too who are following along and supporting the artists and creatives even if you yourself isn’t creating! #ndnartober #octoberartchallenge by @ndnartober
You guessed it! It’s that time of year again! Welcome everyone who has been with us over the past years and either participated by making pieces or followed along and supported the artists involved! We’ll be starting our process of collecting ideas for the #ndnartober2026 prompt. You’ll have from Saturday Aug 15 - Monday Aug 31st to make suggestions for this year’s prompt list. Starting Sept 3rd - 12th @ 11:59 pm cst, you’ll be able to vote on your favorite ideas put forth from folks. The list ndnartober2026 prompt list will be released on Sept 15th. A few rules exist over the coarse of the voting and challenge: 1) any prompt themes from the past 3 years will be disqualified from the 2026 list; 2) themes that are listed multiple times in the comments in the first round will be counted towards official votes; 3) to ensure your pieces are featured this year, you have to tag @ndnartober on your pieces - this ensures we are able to see when they’re posted and can feature it in the stories; 4) you must be indigenous to participate; 5) no AI images or video. We look forward to hearing your ideas for the prompt list this year! So start thinking of them! See you Saturday! #ndnartober #ndnartober2025 #ndnartober2026 #ndnartober2024 by @ndnartober
AND ITS HERE! Save and share this widely! Chokma’shki, Wado, & Yakoke (thank you) to everyone who suggested prompts, voted, and also helped tally the results! We now fully begin to prepare for our 6th year of #ndnartober2026. NDNArtober is an annual 31 day challenge where native creatives are encouraged to take prompts and make art from them. Each prompt number corresponds to the day of the month - so the theme for Oct 1, 2026 will be tattoos, as an example. Folks are able to strategically take on the challenge in what ever way is sustainable to them: maybe you want to do a piece every day. Perhaps starting now on pieces is more your style and post them on the days corresponding to the themes. Maybe you bundle themes together and make pieces that include multiple themes in them. Maybe still you pick and choose the amount that interest you and you believe you can reasonably fulfill. There’s is no failing the challenge. It’s just for fun and we’re all here and excited to see any pieces you create. All art forms - except AI - are encouraged. This year we are also including the guidelines with the prompt list to make it easier to remember. 1. Tag @ndnartober on the images you make. This ensures those of us facilitating the challenge are ensured to see your piece when it comes up - particularly since it’ll show up in our tagged section of our profile. IG is no longer putting all tagged posts in the tagged section of the discovery page, so tagging us on the images is the best way to ensure everyone can see it - plus we’ll add it to our stories up until (no. 2) 11:59 pm cst of the days prompt. From there the day and prompt theme changes. But submissions after 12am are open to be featured on our profile for the next morning to highlight the work and theme that was done. And 3) again, no AI. We want to encourage and celebrate the human made creativity of ndn country. On that note, if you plan to participate, please comment below! Super excited to see all the incredible work yall make! Please share everywhere! #ndnmade #inktober #ndnartober #skoden by @ndnartober
Today is the first of November and NDNArtober of 2026 has officially come to a close! Yakoke, Chokma’shki, and Wado to everyone who helped to formulate the prompt list, vote, and participated in & supported NDNArtobet 2026! It was a great year filled with incredible art! Thank you also to @maryluptonart and @ashleerayart for helping to facilitate the challenge once again! Thank you also to Simon for helping to tally all the votes. Remember yall can always follow the artists to get art in your feed all year. Continue to support art it’s throughout the year in the ways we’ve pointed out - it’s important always not just during October challenges. Make sure to find ways to follow artists off of meta too - considering the current situation l. If you make art based off the prompts and tag @ndnartober on the pieces so they show up in our tagged area on our profile, we will be able to share them prior to next year’s challenge starting up for 2027! Thanks again everyone! See you next year! Today’s final feature is @c_leah_turtle_designs ・・・ Day 31 @ndnartober Spirit World. ✨🖤 + + + #ndnartober2026 #nativeart #sketchart by @ndnartober
Today is the final day of NDNArtober of 2026! This is the final day of this year’s challenge. The theme of today is Spirit World. Yesterday’s theme was Witch. It’s currently day 31 - our final day of NDNArtober for 2026. Today’s theme is Spirit World. Bit late on this, but for day 29, the theme was Moth. Today we are featuring @issitohbi for day 29’s theme. ・・・ Late #NDNARTOBER2026 Day 21: Fiddle Heads. A handful of cultural and spooky tattoo flash designs. Some of these carried over from Protection Is Traditional, and after dislocating a dominant hand knuckle Sunday, I can’t really do what I wanted with it so here it is. Better late than never! Took literally all week to color this with my left finger lol BONUS: Took inspo from Day 13 (Between Worlds), Day 16 (Corn), Day 17 (Fangs), Day 27 (Star Beings), and Day 29 (Moth) for this one. The hearts on my progress sheet are now coming next month. Just like my previous flash designs, tattoo passes will be available! There will be no free passes for this sheet. Prints are also available upon request. Please do not repost on other platforms without tagging me and do not monetize any reposts without prior consent (unless you’re @ndnartober lol) #tattooflashart #inktober2026 #spookytattoos #titsoak by @ndnartober
Welcome to day 29 of NDNArtober 2026! Today’s theme is Moth. Yesterday’s theme was weave. If folks are ever wondering if you can make crafts for ndnartober - you definitely can. All art mediums are welcomed - just not AI. Speaking of, don’t leave IG, coat your work with nightshade or glaze instead. Keep your presence while poisoning the crawlers looking to train on you and your tribal nation’s intellectual property. Looking forward to seeing what yall make through the last 3 days of the challenge! Today we are featuring @kakelacreations ・・・ 🕸️🕷️ #ndnartober2026 #weave Tay learned finger weaving to make their own regalia to wear for stomp dance & discovered a love for weaving 🥹🥹🥹🕷️🕸️ by @ndnartober
Toady is Day 28 of NDNArtober. Today’s theme is Weave. Yesterday’s was Star Beings. Although bittersweet we have just 4 days left in the challenge counting today. We’re looking forward to all the ways yall interpret the weave prompt - so far we’ve seen finger weaving, baskets, spider webs/weaving, and looking forward to seeing so much more! Keep going! You all got this! Today’s feature is @paige_pettibon ・・・ Day 27 - star Beings 8”x10” Digital +++ @ndnartober #ndnartober #starbeings #starillustration #salishart #ndnartober2026 by @ndnartober
Today is day 27 of NDNArtober. Today’s theme is Star Beings. Yesterday’s theme was Cane. Yesterday’s theme was interesting to see all the ways folks interpreted the prompt Cane. Make sure to check out the tagged section of our IG profile to see a retrospect of the vast majority of pieces that has been done yesterday as well as over the entire coarse of this year’s NDNArtober - and years past. Counting today, there’s 5 days left in this year to enjoy NDNArtober. You can definitely continue to make art around these themes Nov 1 and afterwards. As long as you tag @ndnartober on your piece (not in the caption) we’ll be able to see it in that tagged section and your prince may be featured in the months and weeks leading up to ndnartober 2027 and beyond. So never fear if you still want to use the prompt list to continue making art inspired from it. Today’s feature is @dlriley2911 ・・・ Day 26 @ndnartober The Prompt: Cane. I’ve always marveled at this river cane basket by Edmund Youngbird. It’s just so beautiful. #ndnartober2026 #cherokeeartist #cane #rivercane by @ndnartober
Hello everyone! Today is Day 26 of NDNArtober! Today’s theme has been Cane. Yesterday’s theme was Creeks. Shout out and Yakoke, Chokma’ski, and Wado from the ndnartober facilitators to everyone who is still hanging strong and making art! Thank you to everyone who is also continuing to support. We have 5 days left to have our feed’s film scroll broken up by amazing indigenous art. Make sure to continue supporting real artists. Right now the scariest thing for the art community is IG looking to steal all the art folks have made for their AI training without consent. Plug into the growing resistance while also continuing to do the usual things to support artists. If you don’t know what’s going on, check out stories and our repost tab. Today’s feature is @andreasavar ・・・ Day 25 of @ndnartober is the prompt “creek” and I can’t think of creeks without crawdads! I made this skirt about the story of the fox who finds herself thirsty and goes for a drink in a cool forest creek only to be challenged to a race by a Crawdad! The dark blue ribbon is water, the orange the fox and Crawdad and the light blue is the sky. This skirt found its home yesterday in my shop but is forever one of my favorite spécial skirts! I still have the crawdad jacket! #ndnartober #crawdad #creek #water #cherokee by @ndnartober
Today is day 25 of NDNArtober! Today’s theme is Creeks! Whether you’re portraying Mvskokes (creeks) or bodies of water, we’ve been enjoying seeing the pieces yall are making. Def looking forward to the ones still being worked on. 😃 Yesterday’s theme was Spirit Name. Shout out to everyone who gave that one a go! So many beautiful pieces! We have 6 days left in the challenge. Remember as long as you’re indigenous and wanting to participate you can even if you’ve taken a break or been wanting to jump in! Today we are featuring @anthrobeader ・・・ Day 24 of NDNArtober and the prompt is spirit name. This year, I’m sewing the prompts which will be made into a skirt at the end of the month. #Day24NDNArtobrt #SpiritName #NDNArtoberSkirtProject #FuckAI @ndnartober by @ndnartober
Welcome to Day 24 of NDNArtober! Today’s theme is Spirit Name. Yesterday’s theme was Midnight. A week from today will be Halloween and the final day of this challenge for 365 days. Counting today we have 8 days to enjoy the remaining part of this challenge we still have. Everyone has done beautiful and amazing work! Many folks have grown quite a bit in their art style and practices and that’s always so beautiful to see. Others of you have created a stack of work you can now use for selling, or gifts for folks, or even applying to shows and/or maybe schools. It’s been a lot of work and you’ve still got this. -Counting today - there’s 8 more prompts and 8 more chances to create work within our lil digital community here. Keep going and finish strong! Your work brings life and a breath of fresh air to all our feeds. It’s been beautiful to have the doom scroll interrupted these last 23 days. 😃Everyone keep supporting the artists! Today’s feature is @zthebee24 ・・・ 23. MIDNIGHT #ndnartober2026 #pinkeraserart #printmaking by @ndnartober
