After enough years in this sport, you start to realize that the weight on the bar is only one part of what you’re building.

The discipline, the relationships, the lessons and the example you set can stay with you long after a workout is over.

That’s the kind of strength I want to carry forward.

Training gives you the stimulus. What you do outside the gym helps determine how well you respond to it.

Good nutrition has always been part of my approach to performance. Enough fuel to train hard, enough protein to support recovery and consistency you can actually maintain.

You don’t need complicated rules. You need to give your body what the work demands.

Training for longevity changes the way you think about performance.

It’s not only about how much you can lift or how fast you can move today. It’s about developing strength, mobility and physical capacity that continue to support the way you live.

Train for the body you want to have years from now, not just the results you want this week.

This is my first birthday without my mom. Turning 49 feels different this year.

Losing her has reminded me how grateful I am to be alive. For another day. Another year. Another chance to love the people around me.

I never had a dad growing up. Years ago, through my wife, I gained a mother and father—and a support system I hadn’t experienced before. Today, I’m feeling both the pain of losing my mom and gratitude for the family I have around me.

One doesn’t erase the other. There’s room for both.

For years, training, sauna, cold plunges, and other recovery practices have been part of how I take care of myself. As I get older, I keep making that investment because I want to stay strong, feel youthful, and have the energy to be present for my family.

I miss my mom. I’m thankful for the people who love me. And I’m grateful I get another day.

Take care of yourself. Tell your people you love them. We don’t get this time back. ❤️ true 49er

Recovery gets overlooked when you’re focused on getting better.

Years of training taught me that progress also depends on what happens between sessions. Sleep, nutrition, mobility and knowing when to back off all have a place in the process.

You can push hard and still respect what your body needs to keep performing.

Athletic discipline extends beyond the time spent in the gym.

It's choosing preparation over convenience. Keeping commitments. Taking care of the details that support your performance. Showing up ready to do the work.

Those choices may never appear on a leaderboard, but they become part of the athlete you bring to competition.

Getting older is part of the process. Losing your ability to move, train and stay active doesn't have to be.

Strength, mobility and conditioning give your body the capacity to handle more throughout the years. The work you put in today can continue to support the way you move tomorrow.

Keep training. Keep adapting. Keep moving forward.

The reasons for competing can change as an athlete gets older.

The goal may evolve. The competition may look different. The priorities may shift.

But the desire to test yourself, keep learning, and discover what you're still capable of can remain.

For Neal, competition continues to be a way to challenge his limits and keep moving forward.

A competition result captures one moment.

Behind it are years of training, decisions, setbacks, relationships, sacrifices, and experiences that shape the person standing on the competition floor.

Neal's story goes far beyond the numbers next to his name.

The athlete you see today was built through everything that happened before the clock started.

Want to change the world? Start with the kids looking up to you.

Jane Goodall’s message about inspiring the next generation reminds me why coaching our youth matters so much.

Every practice is an opportunity to teach something they can carry for life: effort, respect, accountability, and the courage to try again after they fail.

As parents, coaches, and mentors, our example matters. They see how we handle frustration, how we treat people, and whether we keep our word.

I want every kid I coach to leave knowing someone believes in them—and learning how to believe in themselves.

The future leaders of tomorrow are standing in front of us today. Give them your time. Set the example. Help them see what they’re capable of.

That’s an impact worth working for. 💪

Competition has a way of making every decision matter.

You have limited time, unexpected challenges, other athletes beside you, and one opportunity to execute what you've practiced.

For Neal, competing has always been more than chasing a result. Every competition brings another lesson about preparation, adaptability, and performing when the pressure is on.

Training develops your physical abilities, but every session also asks something from your mindset.

How do you respond when the weight feels heavier? How do you react when a workout doesn't go as planned? How do you approach the next attempt?

For Neal, those moments are part of becoming a better athlete.
