The faces behind the fright! 🕸️✨ Meet the incredible artists joining us for a wickedly fun night featuring highlights such as Schubert’s Doppelgänger, Britten’s Funeral Blues, the Poison Aria from Roméo et Juliette, mysterious witchcraft from Rusalka, and music from The Phantom of the Opera — with plenty more surprises, drama, and a few chills along the way!

🔥 Simply Lyrical II brought the heat of Spain to Nebula! 🇪🇸 Flamenco, Spanish music, extraordinary musicians, and a full house — the room was absolutely sparkling!

From art song recitals to fully staged opera, chamber music, and themed concerts, Nebula is a place where different artistic worlds can meet, create, and come to life. That’s the Nebula style - versatile, intimate, collaborative, and always a little unexpected. 💫

And none of this would be possible without the incredible leadership and vision of Alice Chee and Lynol Amero, their generosity and dedication have created a space where artists, audiences, and so many different musical worlds can come together. And behind every project is an amazing team of artists, technicians, front-of-house crew, ambassadors, and everyone working behind the scenes to bring it all to life.

As audience members Carla and Hugh so beautifully put it after the concert:

“Saturday was an incredibly exciting performance with the trombone, bass, harp, castanets, singers, dancer AND the amazing, fabulous, wonderful, incredible guitar and piano. WOW, wow, wow! Such a fabulous selection of passionate, energetic, talented entertainers. We loved every minute!”

A little look behind the scenes of our first Simply Lyrical show! 🎶 From the moments we shared in rehearsal to performing songs we all love, it was a joy to bring this music to the stage together. ✨

We’re back this Saturday, September 26 at 3 PM at Nebula with Spanish music and flamenco! 💃

Featuring Wenwen Du (piano), Jeremy Berkman (trombone), Janelle Nadeau (harp), Michael Rush (double bass), Josué Tacoronte (guitar), Linda Hayes (flamenco dance), Brent MacKenzie (tenor), and Adriana Zaharijevic (soprano).

🪭 Want to know more about our upcoming Simply Lyrical concert? Here’s Jeremy Berkman, the musical force behind this project, sharing the inspiration behind it in his own words:

🪊 “The final performance of our Simply Lyrical program will be on Saturday afternoon, September 26th, at the phenomenal new intimate venue in South Vancouver called Nebula Performances. Once again, Nebula’s wonderful Artistic Director, Wenwen Du, has invited Janelle and I to present a program featuring voice, guitar, trombone, piano, double bass and pedal harp! AND, flamenco dancer and castanet player Linday Hayes!

Janelle and I feel so blessed that for a couple weeks each year amazing guitarist Josue Tacoronte visits Vancouver to primarily work intensely with the Flamenco dance community, but he has carved out time for us to develop a program that is inspired by Josue‘s expertise, and yet also is inclusive of the work Janelle and I play as members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. Nebula Performances is the PERFECT venue for such a sharing of music-making and exploration. There aren’t many seats, as the space is meant to feel like a large living room! So if you‘d consider spending 75 minutes in our company, sharing in music we love to play and explore — please join us!”

🌸 Following the success of our debut Simply Lyrical concert this spring, we’re bringing this intimate and wonderfully eclectic celebration of Spanish music back to Nebula.

💃🏻 From the soaring voices of opera singers to the warmth of flamenco guitar, the rhythm and movement of flamenco dance, the richness of double bass, the colour of trombone and harp, and the artistry of piano, this concert brings together a surprising combination of sounds, artists, and traditions. 🪭

🎶 What connects it all is the beauty of the melody—music that is passionate, lyrical, soulful, and deeply expressive.

🪉Simply Lyrical is also about the joy of musicians sharing what they love. Each artist brings their own musical world to the stage, creating something that is greater than the sum of its parts: a heartfelt, vibrant, and beautifully eclectic musical experience.

Let’s explain an opera while chaotically also going to that opera! 🌟

I went to see @nebulaperformances’ production of Pagliacci and I had a blast! @wenwen_du112 is absolutely phenomenal, her cast was excellent, and the opportunity to see such an intense opera in such an intimate space was a total joy. Indie opera isn’t stuffy - it’s artists who want to do what they love, all coming together and making it happen through sheer force of will, and that’s super powerful to witness!

And what an opera to start this series off with, too - an opera about (among many things) the process of artists making art! 💪🏼

Thanks for the ticket (all opinions my own) ✨ Where will I go to chaotically explain an opera next?!
