Friends! I'm getting ready to announce registration for my first spring hide tanning classes here on our beautiful forest farm. Come tan hides with me!! 🐏🦝🐿🐇

What are we tanning first? Veg tanned sheepskins! ✨️🐏✨️

Class sizes are gonna be small (4 folks max) so we have lots of hands-on time together and you can ask me all the things. Tanning hides in community is where it's at (trust me) and I'm so excited to share what I've learned and for you to experience my very favorite thing to do- turn animal skins into beautiful textiles!

Opossum Power!! 🐾💪🐾💪

Team Critter Faces wins again with North America's coolest (and only) marsupial!

Virginia opossums are so very cool, did you know that they have more teeth than any other land mammal in N. America, prehensile tails AND opposable thumbs? 🐾

I made these opossum belt pouches from scavenged roadkilled buddies tanned naturally with bark tannins to create a true leather. They have a deer needle bone closure and belt loop.

You can find all of my naturally tanned roadkill furs and jewelry at some really cool markets very soon in Portland!

My very best furs go around a neck. Who doesn't want a sleepy raccoon to keep them warm this winter?

A few of my fuffiest brain tanned roadkilled raccoon furs became the softest scarves with an antler button closure. It's hard not to keep this one because it's REALLY cozy, but he belongs to someone else. You??

I will have a few of these buddies at my upcoming fall/winter markets! Peep them in my b1o.

Oh hey! Are you tired of boring hip belts and blasé fanny paks? Do you need somewhere cute and curious to keep all of the fucks you give? Have I got a thing for you!

Bark tanned roadkill raccoon belt pouches!

I pulled these buddies from the roadside, tanned them with chestnut extracts to make a soft, durable leather, and created these fuzzy fun belt pouches to carry all of your nice things.

If you need a wholeass raccoon on your hip, come find them and a whole bunch of other roadkill crafts I make at @odditiesandcuriositiesexpo in Portland next month!

Made some nice antler buttons today! I foolishly chose to use my battery powered dremels until I realized that I would be as old as I feel before they'd ever be finished. Once I switched to my electric it went way faster. Anyway!

These are gonna be used on some nice bark and brain tanned roadkill raccoon fur adornments for @odditiesandcuriositiesexpo in Nov!

Antlers make really nice buttons, I'm excited to get them attached and finally show off some of the stuff I'm making! ✨️🦝✨️

Blessed equinox b(w)itches!

I feel like so many aspects of my life- being sober, farming, hide tanning, cycling, (🚲 and 🩸) perimenopausal- have me locked in to the changing of seasons. Fall is objectively the best season in the northern hemisphere, I will not be taking any questions. 🍂🍁

Anyway, we are appreciating the preciously disappearing daylight hours to get our wood split, fruit pressed, veg harvested and planted for winter, and as much tanning done as I can before the tannery moves indoors. It's also swift counting season and hunting season for upland birds. We're busy!

I hope the changing season finds you as well as can reasonably be expected in our current changing landscape. Let's appreciate every good thing we have- food, warmth, safety, community, and find ways to support those who have not.

I've been brain tanning furs like a MFer this summer and had a big ol smoking pit with these nice roadkilled raccoons and a billion rabbit pelts.

Summer where did you go!?!

A few sweet moments with some industrious friends and students tanning wool sheep in the yard. I'm always grateful that folks want to hang out, tan hides, share snacks and stories, and just be in the craft together.

I didn't have a ton of energy for teaching this summer but every moment with the folks, the sheep, the raccoons, the tannins, the fats, the smoke, the sweat, and the sweetest labor was absolutely worth it.

Oh man, summer is going so fast!
The peas are done, Echoes came/went, hide tanning classes are underway. It's flying by, too fast.

I've been having conversations about this very thing, why is time rushing by? Is it because I'm getting old? Always busy? Anyway, it's gonna be fall like, tomorrow so I guess I better do a bunch of stuff.

I'll be announcing my last? hide tanning class (raccoons! 🦝) of the summer, stay tuned. Or don't! I'm not a cop!

We are back in bunnies! 🐰

Just like that I'm back in the outdoor tannery softening brain tan bunnies. I love working outside in the sunshine, and softening hides on my cables and beams is a pleasing seasonal labor.

I'm tanning through my bunnies asap so I can move on to raccoons, all to be made into soft, snuggly treasures for fall/winter markets.

Spring/summer are my fat/smoke tanning seasons and I was so ready! 🐰🔥💨
