Frozen Light

“너는 우주의 자식이다,
그런 점에서 나무와 별과 다르지 않다.”

이 문장은 오랫동안 나의 작업을 이끌어온 출발점이었다. 나는 인간만이 아니라 나무와 별, 동물을 포함한 모든 존재를 하나의 우주 안에서 바라보려고 한다. 서로 다른 형태를 가졌지만, 모두 저마다의 시간과 빛을 품고 살아가는 존재들처럼.

이번 작업은 흙에서 시작된다. 손으로 빚어진 흙의 형상은 여러번의 복제와 소실 과정을 거쳐 유리로 다시 태어난다. 하나의 존재는 서로 다른 물질을 통과하며 새로운 몸을 얻고, 그 과정에서 축적된 시간은 작품 안에 남는다.

내가 말하는 Jewel은 장신구나 소유의 대상이 아니다. 그것은 모든 존재 안에 조용히 머무는 가장 소중한 빛을 의미한다. 눈에 보이지 않지만, 각자의 시간을 견디며 사라지지 않는 존재의 중심이다.

유리는 그 빛을 가장 잘 담아날 수 있는 재료였다. 투명한 몸은 빛을 감추지 않으면서도 보호하고, JEWEL은 그 안에서 존재의 중심으로 머문다.
FROZEN LIGHT는 얼어붙은 빛이 아니라, 시간 속에서도 사라지지 않고 조용히 머무는 빛의 풍경이다.

This sentence has long been the starting point of my practice. I see not only humans, but also trees, stars, and animals as beings that exist within the same universe. Though they take different forms, each carries its own time and its own light.

This body of work begins with clay. Forms shaped by hand are repeatedly cast, lost, and reborn in glass. As each figure passes through different materials, it acquires a new body, while the time accumulated throughout the process remains embedded within the work.

The Jewel I speak of is neither an ornament nor an object of possession. It is the quiet, precious light that exists within every being. Though invisible, it endures through time and remains at the very center of existence.

Glass became the material that could best hold this light. Its transparent body protects without concealing, allowing the Jewel to remain quietly at the heart of each being.

Frozen Light is not about light that has been frozen. It is a landscape of light that quietly endures—remaining within every being, even as time continues to pass.
