Korean Craft Archive는 한국 공예의 현재를 기록하는 동시에, 앞으로의 공예가 나아갈 방향을 함께 생각해보는 프로젝트입니다. 전통의 기술과 재료는 여전히 작가들의 손끝에 남아 있지만, 그 위에 더해지는 현대의 감각과 개인의 태도는 공예를 새로운 언어로 확장시킵니다. 우리는 이 변화하고 발전하는 기록을 통해 공예가 ‘현재의 사유’임을 이야기하고자 합니다. 이 프로젝트는 현재의 시간을 공유하는 작가들의 각기 다른 작업들을 동시에 보여주면서, 우리가 함께 만들고 있는 한국 공예의 오늘을 조명합니다.

Our Home : Korean Craft Archive (1st edition)

Korean Craft Archive is a project that records the present of Korean craft, while at the same time thinking together about the direction craft may take in the future. The techniques and materials of tradition still remain at the fingertips of artists, but the contemporary sensibilities and individual attitudes added on top of them expand craft into a new language.

Through this record of change and development, we want to speak of craft as a “way of thinking in the present.” This project presents, at the same time, the different works of artists who share the present moment, and sheds light on the Korean craft of today that we are creating together.

Sleep is for the dead 😭 this is how life is when you hop off a midnight flight from Shanghai, straight into an early hawker date with friends visting from abroad, Lochie’s first Ratatouille movie date, back-to-back special dinners for special friends because there is no better way to celebrate momentous occasions or really just to bookmark the everyday via a home-cooked meal. I get asked often these days, exactly where do I get the energy from? Not sure really, but the toxic trait that runs genetically in the females in my family all can’t catch a break. My grandma vilified afternoon naps, but she bordered on absurd because she’d be out cold by 11pm and then up, sprightly as ever by 6am scurrying away trying to whip up her only trick in the kitchen (I told you the women in my family did not cook): cheese on toast. I like to think of it, though as a reciprocity and exchange of energies — the external (you) nourishes the internal (me). Keep moving, keep ruminating, keep thinking, keep churning… to find the synchronicity in life 🦋🎨

P.S You should definitely take that afternoon nap if you need / want to. Do not be like my grandma 😤

This episode is called Confessions of A Shopaholic: Shanghai edition. My mother laments that she brought on this sick malaise unto herself because she used to push me around in a pram in departmental stores all day when I was little — even before I could speak. I think it must have started there. I exercised full volition in everything I wore from a young age. There are ridiculous photos of me as a four-year-old in little block heels and a shift dress. You know what Miuccia Prada says right, “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world. Fashion is instant language.” So yes, this is how I’m talking to you every moment, every day 💋🐩🦚

아직 누구의 시선에도 닿지 않았던 김누리 작가의 작업들이 마지막으로 모순에 도착했습니다.

작은 상자 안에는 작은 동물이, 그리고 그 동물의 가슴에는 작은 보석이 조용히 박혀 있습니다.

이번 전시를 위해 준비된 작품은 단 3점.
내일, 처음으로 세상에 공개됩니다.

Inside each small box rests a tiny animal, with a delicate gemstone quietly set into its chest.

Only three pieces have been created for this exhibition.
Tomorrow, they will be unveiled to the world for the very first time.
