MIXED LIGHT arrives August 28! The first single ‘Curious Thing’ is out there as of today on all the usual streamers and beamers. LP will be released on @feedingtuberecords_rozztoxart and @itrecordsmelb CD edition by It Recs and Chicago’s best, @osrecs which is @tornlight Alex York who seems to have started a label yesterday to put this thing out.

Curious Thing (and a good deal of the album) features @leahseniormusic’s sure and beautiful voice, and the original and only Wirewalker – @joetalia and @benjmbourke – play drums n bass. Recorded in Melbourne last year with @danluscombeguy in his magical grotto.

There’s a link in the bio to a little feature from Australia’s own longstanding conduit to the sonic stars, Cyclic Defrost, including a video I made from some long defunct devices. The album artwork is by my excellent and inspiring friend @lucydysonsphere and we shall reveal more of this somewhat hilarious concept over the next couple of months. The pic of me is by @remyvroonen

In an instance of temporal poetry Leah’s wonderful new album Pt. Roadknight is out today too, on @spinstersounds and @third_eye_stimuli and all I’m gonna say is every time Leah sings on one of my songs a new character is created that spins around and deepens the meaning and relation of the other characters within. I never intend it, but am slowly coming to expect it—it’s like writing a two-hander but you know someone brilliant is going to take care of the other hand.

You can pre-order Mixed Light right now. This record goes a few wild places and it sure was a pleasure going to them, unexpected as some of its sources were. It also involves some of my favourite cameos ever which we’ll get to soon, but for now I hope you enjoy this little straight shooter before we hit the high seas. by @nedcol

For folk and alt-rock songwriter Ned Collette (@nedcol), his latest album ‘Mixed Light’ is a body of work that forms a “chaotic personal collage” of ideas and sounds accumulated over the past ten years of making music.

Collette was joined for Season XXII by a legendary cast of musicians in Chris Abrahams (piano), Ben Bourke (bass), Leah Senior (@leahseniormusic) (vocals), and Joe Talia (@joetalia) (drums) - friends and fellow musicians whom he considers more like “the blood and bones of the organism” than collaborators. Restless, cynical, humorous and cathartic, ‘Mixed Light’ brings together these long-time collaborators in an ensemble that Collette describes as “the beginning of playing music [together] for a long time.”

Coming from a background in experimental and improvised music, it has taken a while for Collette to feel comfortable calling himself a songwriter. “It always felt like I was adding the songs to the sonic stuff. Now I feel like I’m slave to the song much more than the musical thing. The music thing feels a bit more natural - It feels a bit more like preparing a canvas or something. But then the songwriting is the actual subject matter and the important thing.”

Posting this again now I’m not half asleep and it’s available in the @nts_radio archive. I truly enjoyed putting this show together, a crazy ol’ mix of all time and recent faves where I really focused on shorter tracks. It was a huge honour to take over for @5hags this month. UPDATE: show is now in the NTS archive and listenable at link in my bio. @5hags has fulfilled many of my fantasies over the years, so it”s of zero surprise to me that he’s made one of my dreamiest dreams come true, namely presenting a show (HIS show) on @nts_radio this month, this second. Making radio is one of my favourite things, not completely unlike making a record but superior to putting together your own album because you know it’s all bangers rather than just the usual 80/90 percent. Hear the last five minutes right now! Aborder la rentrée avec le nouvel album de @nedcol , "Mixed Light" (@itrecordsmelb , Feeding Tube Records, Open Square), ne peut être qu'un beau présage pour l'année musicale à venir ... Compagnon fidèle de la programmation du Village Pop depuis sa création, ce musicien australien installé en Europe a déjà enfanté nombre de merveilles discographiques, et ce nouvel opus ne sera pas loin des sommets c'est certain ... Comment définir au mieux la musique de Ned Collette ? ... Ici, la respiration dicte son rythme et il est inutile d'y interférer ... Ici, on aime réinventer un monde où apreté et délicatesse ont tant de choses à partager ... Ici, le songwriting est toujours une aventure qui sourit aux audacieux ... Ici, l'intensité n'est jamais une histoire de volume ... Ici, on peut être à la fois cosmique et incarné dans tous ses interstices ... Ici, on est loin, très loin du business et de ses illusions infantiles ... Ici, l'Autre n'est jamais un alibi ... Ici, le chant est aussi discret que souverain ...
