Do you remember when I lived in Marseille, France for a month to make a body of work??⁣
⁣
I arrived in Marseille in the summer of 2025, a country I had never been. A place like no other place I’d been to in my entire life. Walking through the streets I heard French, Arabic, Wolof, and Spanish. I never felt so “American” in my life. Marseille broke my heart open in ways that I’m still learning about. I offer the photos I made, to this experience…to Marseille, to the people I met, who change my life. There is SO much more to say, but most of all I say THANK YOU. ⁣
⁣
I do hope that you go see! ⁣

Been learning and teaching. Putting things into practice. Practicing gratitude. Waking up early. Sitting with the trees. Figuring out ways to resist. Imagining the future. Willing freedom for all. Seeing a little magic & being it too! by @neeksiebeeks

The Art of Rage | by @neeksiebeeks I’ll Fight You Just to Get Peace, 2026.
“These days are hard for me, I don’t know what else to say! Every day there is more injustice, violence, and crimes committed against our collective humanity. It’s hard to witness, it’s hard to participate, it’s just hard. I am sad and angry. I always try to return to LOVE. As a vibration, a frequency...that is for every and all things. I try to share my life as a person, because it is so very intertwined with who I am as an artist. And so, that’s just what it is. I love YOU!” taken in Rage by @neeksiebeeks

There are some things I’m excited about: ⁣
⁣
1. Cyanotype collage, sewing! Following my intuition and playing as much as I can. ⁣
⁣
2. Cats! Alllll 5 of them. Da Baby, Malcolm, Wolf, Bilal & Ashura. ⁣
⁣
3. To welcome Ja’Ziah Woodard, Class of 2027 and a 2026 Lyric McHenry Community Arts Fellow at Stanford University. This summer, Ja’Ziah will apprentice with me! She is an aspiring civil rights attorney and artist and sees photography as another way to challenge injustice, amplify underrepresented voices, and create meaningful dialogue. I’m excited to introduce her to the A my way. You may see us around talking/making art, checking out shows/museums orrrr asking you for a studio visit! ⁣
⁣

A lil roadtrippin and ATL Free Fair on the digital point and shoot! We traveled to Camp Hill, Alabama to attend the opening of I Live Here, by Didimos Johnson. I met Didimos when he took my workshop at Atlanta Center for Photography this winter. What a joy to surprise him!⁣ @didimos_johnson
⁣
Camp Hill is a small, historic town located in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Situated in the east-central part of the state, it sits along U.S. Highway 280, roughly 20 miles northwest of Auburn and Opelika. During the 1930s, Camp Hill was a pivotal, courageous hub for the historic Sharecroppers Union, a powerful, primarily African-American labor union fighting for economic and civil rights.⁣
⁣
Didimos’s project captures portraits and stories of both residents who stayed and those who left, aiming to honor the town’s resilience and inspire other small towns to dream bigger.⁣

Last chance to see Rejoice, Resist, Rest: Images of Black Liberation!!⁣
⁣
It was a joy to co-curate this exhibition of student work! We had sssooo much fun at our exhibition walkthrough and Zine Making Workshop. A BIG thank you to everyone who participated and made this possible! 🖤🖤🖤⁣
⁣
⁣
The project materialized in photography and curatorial studies courses taught in the Department of Art & Visual Culture at Spelman College under the direction of Nydia Blas, M.F.A., and Chad Dawkins, Ph.D.⁣
⁣
The exhibition Rejoice, Resist, Rest: Images of Black Liberation from the Johnson Publishing Company Archives presents a selection of artworks, archival photographs, texts, and zines by students of the Atlanta University Center (AUC) Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective and the Spelman Photography Program produced through access to the Johnson Publishing Company Archive, an initiative supported by the Getty Research Institute. Students engaged with historical photographs and other ephemera symbolic of the 20th century Black American experience and responded via themes of freedom and liberation. The results include a variety of interpretations and responses dependent upon a student’s personal, artistic, and academic interests. ⁣
⁣
This project is made possible with grant support awarded to Spelman College from Getty Research Institute through Johnson Publishing Company Archive initiative. taken in Atlanta Contemporary by @neeksiebeeks

Last week I had this on and my student stopped class and asked me “Professor, how do you put together an outfit like this?” So I’ve been thinking about getting dressed and why I like it! An outfit is like the art I make, putting disparate things together to make a whole. It’s creative, it’s fun…it’s a temporal expression. I usually start with one thing I FEEL like wearing. I rarely think about what’s expected or appropriate for the day. I could wear a ballgown on a Sunday and sweats to the ball. It could be a pair of shoes, a jacket…then I build the rest of the outfit around that thing, by trying other stuff on to balance all things out. I thrift most of my clothes. I get rid of things often that no longer feel aligned, as I am forever growing and changing. I thrift most of my things, cause I like a hunt. That’s my answer! taken in Atlanta, GA by @neeksiebeeks
