Please, don’t leave Ahmed and his family to face this pain alone. Even a donation of just $1 could help ease their suffering and bring a little hope back into the hearts of his children. 🙏💔

Thank you to everyone who came out for the opening of Eyes on Atlanta: Subverting the Gaze at @atlantaphotographygroup last night! 💛 Special thanks to @davidcliftonstrawn and @bryangalganophotography for such a beautifully festive reception. So proud of all of the artists!

I felt especially lucky to have my mom, @melissajw_mccrory, here to celebrate with me before her birthday festivities! 🥹💕

Photo cred to my wife/unpaid intern @_dilly_dalley_, who takes the best pictures of me.

After curating 3️⃣ shows this fall, I am ready to rest. 💤

Nydia Blas (@neeksiebeeks), featuring her new adorned cyanotypes paired with Black feminist scholar bell hooks’s influential essay “The Oppositional Gaze: Black Female Spectators” (1992).

🥂 Subverting the Gaze opens TOMORROW! Join us Thursday, October 15, from 7–9 PM at @atlantaphotographygroup for the opening reception. The exhibition’s Virtual Bookshelf launches at the reception, featuring readings that expand on the artists’ work and my curatorial thinking around the gaze.

📚 “Not only will I stare. I want my look to change reality.” -bell hooks

In “The Oppositional Gaze,” hooks examines how looking can become an act of resistance. Writing about how Black women have been excluded from dominant visual narratives, she describes looking as a way to challenge structures of power and assert agency. Rather than treating spectatorship as passive, hooks positions looking as a means of questioning representation and imagining new possibilities.

👁️ Eyes on Atlanta: Subverting the Gaze, curated by Charlotte Woolf, explores how artists challenge, complicate, and reclaim systems of looking that have historically shaped how people are represented and understood.

Life inside a tent is a daily struggle for basic survival, yet we choose hope over despair. When exhaustion tries to break us and everything feels overwhelming, we remind ourselves that we are stronger than our circumstances.#LifeInTents #NeverGiveUp #KeepHopeAlive #HumanityFirst #StandWithUs

Nydia Blas works in the space between memory and myth.

Her photographs don't document — they reconstruct. Drawing from family history, Black feminine experience, and the surreal, she builds images that exist somewhere between what happened and what's still being carried.

Her work is in Sacred Roots, Issue No. 4.
