Reproduction is bigger than birth. And the conversation deserves to be, too.

Pick up these books at NEFER. Look at all the questions they raise about our bodies, our choices, our histories, our relationships, our labor, our joy, and the systems that shape how we bring life into this world — and how we choose to live our own.

At NEFER, we want the FULL conversation. Pregnancy and birth, yes. But also fertility, infertility, abortion, sexuality, pleasure, loss, motherhood, the decision not to mother, reproductive justice, and what it means to have agency over our own bodies. We want to talk about the things we whisper, the things we debate, the things we haven't quite figured out how to say.

That's The Assemblage: Birth Workers. A gathering for birth workers, maternal health professionals, advocates, writers, storytellers, and those whose work and lives touch these questions. Come ready to exchange ideas, share perspective, and make room for the conversations that don't always fit into a professional conference or a textbook.

Because caring for people means caring about the whole story. And we can't tell the whole story if we only talk about the birth.

The Bronx doesn’t need anybody to save us. We need people to stop leaving us out. 📚

Once again, the Bronx is left out of conversations about equitable access to books and literacy resources. But if growing up here taught me anything, it’s that our community has always shown up for itself.

As we wrap up Banned Books Week (October 4–10), let’s remember that the fight for the freedom to read isn’t just about censorship. It’s also about who has access to books in the first place.

What good is the freedom to read if entire communities are still fighting for access?

Huge shoutout to @thelitbar and @neferbookcafe for continuing to hold us down and creating spaces where our stories, cultures, and voices belong. 🤎

Access to books should never be controversial. It should never depend on your ZIP code.

The Bronx deserves more than being an afterthought. We deserve investment, representation, and access.

Read banned books. Support independent bookstores. Invest in your community.

On October 10 at 10AM, we’re gathering in it with Jazy of @loftyheightsmovement for this month's Radiant Rebels.

The Ofrenda That We Built is a tender celebration of family, memory, and Día de los Muertos, showing how we honor and remember the loved ones who remain with us in spirit.
