🌶️📚 BOOK CLUB AFTER DARK: FOR THE GROWN & SEXY! 🥂🔥 Who said book club had to be all tea and quiet conversations?! 👀💋 Our Bold Book Club Community Read of The Sex Files by K. Sean Harris @kseanharris brought the heat to Nefer Cafe @neferbookcafe in the Bronx! ❤️‍🔥 We kicked things off by reading the first story, “Decision,” together, and let’s just say… the conversation was SPICY, thought-provoking, and definitely not for the faint of heart! 😏 From bold discussions to grown-folk surprises, we created a space where curiosity was welcomed, conversations flowed, and a little spice was encouraged. 🌶️✨ Because reading can be fun, sexy, and a whole lot more than turning pages! We came for the book, stayed for the conversation, and left with a few new things to think about. 😉📖 Bold Book Club: More than a book club. More than sisterhood. COMMUNITY. 💕🥂 Thank you, to all the ladies and gentleman😉 who came out to read with us last night. A special shout out to all of the spicy narrators 😜😂. #BoldBookClub #TheSexFiles #BookClubAfterDark #GrownAndSexy #CommunityRead BronxNights ReadSipAndSpill

The Bronx doesn’t need anybody to save us. We need people to stop leaving us out. 📚 Once again, the Bronx is left out of conversations about equitable access to books and literacy resources. But if growing up here taught me anything, it’s that our community has always shown up for itself. As we wrap up Banned Books Week (October 4–10), let’s remember that the fight for the freedom to read isn’t just about censorship. It’s also about who has access to books in the first place. What good is the freedom to read if entire communities are still fighting for access? Huge shoutout to @thelitbar and @neferbookcafe for continuing to hold us down and creating spaces where our stories, cultures, and voices belong. 🤎 Access to books should never be controversial. It should never depend on your ZIP code. The Bronx deserves more than being an afterthought. We deserve investment, representation, and access. Read banned books. Support independent bookstores. Invest in your community. #BannedBooksWeek #TheBronx #FreedomToRead #LiteracyForAll #bookaccess

📚💜 Protecting Black stories starts with uplifting the people and spaces that share them! We loved connecting with @locd_and_lit and @neferbookcafe at @thelitbar ’s Banned Book Giveaway! ✨ From Black women-owned businesses to art, voices, and stories, our conversation was a joyful reminder that representation in literature matters—and deserves protection. 🖤📖 What Black-authored book inspires you? 💬#bannedbookgiveaway #bannedbooksweek #tellblackstories #supportlocalbookstores #supportblackauthors

The Bronx: One Very Literate Borough Yesterday was National Freedom to Read Day, and @neferbookcafe and @thelitbar partnered for an amazing day of ensuring that banned and challenged books were getting into the hands of the community. From classic novels to children’s books, along with a personalized bookmark designed by @k_n_ife there was a little something for everyone. So I had to swing by to Nefer to grab a pistachio latte and a book to add to my library. As a former teacher and organizer, I know what the data says about The Bronx, from literacy rates, to poverty, to voting propensity. That’s why these Black women owned bookshops matter. That’s why these community events matter. Increasing literacy and increasing access changes lives and changes communities. Our voices are transformative, and we can’t let them be silenced. What banned or challenged book is on your reading list?
