Returning to the sight of the 1996 Port Arthur massacre felt unsettling. A place of such visual and natural beauty. It holds so many ghosts in its core. The feeling of the lived experiences of the past is strong. The lives of our First Nations peoples, so brutally extinguished by the colonialists, the suffering of the convicts and soldiers, the women and children who settled alongside.
All of this feels ever present. It’s a place to reflect upon this simple fact………
VIOLENCE IS REAL, people do not come back.

#stl26day30 how do you choose a favourite post. No idea!!! Too much good stuff. Also hard, as sometimes I hardly saw a post as they must have disappeared in the insta doom scroll, or I was too rushed, or too busy doing something else. Anyway @pieces_of_tomorrow made me laugh, @radicalembroiderer made me rage at the ignorance seen in an art review @byass.rosalind textural colourful work popped up nearly everyday on my feed and @harry_met_di fun retro cars always catch my eye.

Place #stl26day28
New York City is a place to fire the imagination.
Beauty is found in its many sights
but also in its movement and sound.
Towers soar.
Tunnels of skyscrapers seduce.
Yellow taxis flow seamlessly, creating colourful constant rhythms.
Carefully tended parks and squares provide natural beauty and community space.
Graveyards of the early settlers allow one to reflect upon this cities development.
The layers of time move vertically.
Fire escapes zigzag, the lights flicker and the neighbourhoods reveal its diversity.
It is oreat!

Decay #stl26day27 It only took 3 weeks and I was fatigued by the obvious decay, decline and degradation of decency that Trump was bringing to America and the world. Emotion #stl26day25 ‘I want to shoot the whole day down.’ When anger rages in my head, I often hear the words of “I Don’t Like Mondays” by the Irish band the Boomtown Rats raging in my head.
I don’t really understand why I choose to make these guns in this moment.
They encompass my confusion with the world, the rise of the terrifying cruelty, the need of people to create division, the desire for power…………. It goes on and on.
We are told to listen to the other side, but there is a point when you must choose the RIGHT SIDE, the good right( that word is locked and loaded with so much meaning Right now)
I choose the woke and wonderful clear thinking humans who fight for calm, equality, hope, humanity………..
I choose to ‘make guns not war’
And I chose to create controversy with these guns because being complacent simply generates nothing.

Oversize #stl26day24
For many years and to this day, the art world often sees things from the point of view, bigger is better. For women particularly, this has worked against them. Confined within domestic settings, often for practical reasons, women work at a smaller scale. Their work is not lesser, people just choose to not look closely to see its meaning. For me ‘Stitched eyes’ contain many meanings, but our need for eternal vigilance is central to this. Local #STL26Day23 A very famous local artist was John Brack. In 1955 he painted Collins St, 5 pm (swipe for image). Collins St is a very important and well known city street to all locals of Melbourne. As lockdowns began, I free motioned, machine embroidered this image. This is my Covid interpretation of this very important painting. The streets of Melbourne appear cold, distant and a touch dystopian. We see regression in socially aware thinking across the world.
This tea towel explores this theme that terrorists are foreign, when history shows it’s often home grown.
