My work Tabelras is currently on display for the exhibition Kunst.Hånd.Verk showing at National Museum of Oslo @nasjonalmuseet. This work was acquired by the institution in 2023.

The piece is presented within the theme of everyday life, and alongside it you’ll also find a short film of me sharing thoughts on my practice and on the relationship between objects, memories, and daily life.

I am so happy to be a part of this important exhibition addressing the crafts field through the collection of three museums; the National Museum in Oslo, Kode in Bergen and The National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Trondheim 💙 taken in Nasjonalmuseet by @nellie414

What if everyday objects could tell stories? Let us introduce you to Nellie Jonsson (@nellie414).

Nellie Jonsson is a ceramic artist whose figurative sculptures draw inspiration from everyday life, consumer culture and personal memory. At the core of Nellie's practice is an enduring fascination with the overlooked details of daily life. Through an intuitive and material-driven approach, she transforms familiar objects into playful yet evocative ceramic works.

Working primarily with clay, Nellie creates sculptural compositions that inhabit a space between reality and fiction, where domestic scenes become carriers of memory, desire, humor and unease. Balancing tenderness with irony, her works explore how objects shape our understanding of identity, memory and belonging.

✨ December 14th — Nellie Jonsson @nellie414 — Studio visit May 2024

For this year’s art calendar, we’re revisiting 24 artists we’ve had the privilege to visit in their studios over the years.

Nellie Jonsson (b. 1992, Umeå, Sweden) is educated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, holding both a BFA and MFA in material-based art with a focus on ceramics. She works across ceramics, painting and sculpture, creating figurative works with a playful, everyday tone.

Her practice draws on consumer culture and daily life, highlighting overlooked objects and the quiet memories attached to them. Through unexpected compositions and details, her works embrace individuality and difference, suggesting that meaning and memory can emerge from even the smallest things.

Jonsson’s work is part of public collections including the National Museum, KODE and the Nordenfjeldske Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.

We are currently presenting Killshadow by Nellie Jonsson ✨ On view until the 12th of October.

___

In the exhibition Killshadow at QB Gallery, Nellie Jonsson plays with the aesthetics of the medieval in an intuitive interpretation of its objects. The title derives from the name of her younger brother’s avatar in World of Warcraft – a fantasy roleplaying game from the early 2000s. Increasingly, these aesthetics have entered into the mainstream as means for both escapism from and criticism of contemporary life.

While delving into the world of fantasy and the medieval, the present lingers within the delicate and playful ceramic exhibited. It is clear that Jonsson cares deeply about the objects she creates and through them is able to say something incredibly human without any human presence at all. The objects themselves hold memory, as an archive of lived life. The attention and love spared for the objects also bring a critical reflection of our relationship to things - an oscillation between too much and not enough.
