The goal isn’t to look rich.
It’s to become rich.

A six-figure income won’t save you if every raise turns into a bigger apartment, a newer car, and higher monthly payments.

Meanwhile, someone earning half as much can quietly build real wealth through consistent investing and controlled spending.

Income creates options.
Discipline creates wealth.

Dating shouldn’t require pretending you’re richer than you are. 💳
A recent survey found 37% of Gen Z respondents would overdraft their account or go into debt to impress a date or partner. My concern here is creating a lifestyle you can’t actually afford just to avoid looking “broke.”
Financial compatibility matters way more. Can you say something is out of budget without it getting weird? Can you talk honestly about spending, saving, and debt?
❤️ My rule: don’t set a dating standard on date one that you’d need debt to maintain by date ten. by @nerdwallet

Comment “NEWSLETTER” and I’ll send you MoneyNerd for more money news, smart spending strategies and what it all means for your wallet. 🧠
60% of Americans say they’ve bought something expensive and later regretted it. Buyer’s remorse isn’t just about making one “bad” purchase. Sometimes the problem is how we make expensive decisions in the first place.
Before I spend a lot of money, I try to:
⏰ Give myself time before buying.
🧾 Calculate the full cost of owning it.
🧠 Ask why I want it right now.
⚖️ Compare it with what else that money could do.
💳 Picture how I’ll feel when the bill actually arrives.
You’re allowed to spend money on things you want — the goal is just to make sure the purchase still makes sense after the excitement wears off. by @nerdwallet

👻 Turns out the scariest part of wedding season might be the bill.

The typical bridesmaid can spend around $1,200-$1,800 between the dress, pre-wedding events, travel, and everything else that gets added along the way, according to a recent survey. If you’re asked to be in a wedding, a few things I’d do before spending:

💸 Ask what you’re realistically expected to pay for — wedding, bach trip, shower, hair/makeup, travel, etc. Then set your own total budget.

👗 Look for the easy swaps. Rent the dress if you can, DIY hair/makeup if it’s optional, split accommodations, and consider a group gift.

✈️ If travel is the expensive part, check whether your existing points or miles can cover some of it — but don’t take on credit card debt just for the rewards.

And yes: you are allowed to say NO to optional wedding events. A good friend would rather know that early than have you go into debt. by @nerdwallet
