Admin Night
Mit Dr. Johann Ahn, Felix Deiters, Alice Morey

29. Oktober 2026
18–21 Uhr (Einlass 17.30 Uhr)

Cosmologies at Play
Polina Osipova

September 19 – October 25, 2026

For her first solo exhibition in Germany, Polina Osipova transforms the project space Neun Kelche into a playground with Cosmologies at Play. In her installation, Polina brings Chuvash cosmologies into dialogue with Soviet playground typologies, whose visual language drew on space travel as a central symbol of identification and a promise of the Soviet future. In Polina’s playground, too, the slide becomes a rocket, while the playhouse, encircled by a ring, takes on the shape of Saturn and simultaneously recalls Sputnik 2, the spacecraft that carried the dog Laika into space in 1957. A small model of a planetary system sits on the seesaw, while small rockets can be played with in the silver-rimmed sandpit. From the mid-1950s onwards, standardised playground equipment based on state-developed designs was produced on a large scale and distributed across the entire Soviet Union. Across vast geographical distances this created a shared visual vocabulary, some remnants of which survive to this day. Comparable cosmic playground structures could also be found in the GDR and in East Berlin. Some visitors may therefore be reminded of their own childhoods.

However, the works created for the project space only appear to quote this historical visual language at first glance. A closer look reveals that Polina has altered their materials and surfaces, dressing, covering and extending the playground structures with textiles, metalwork and photographs from her family archive. This layering, assembling and connecting of different materials and fragments of memory is central to her practice. Chuvash craft techniques, ornaments and inherited stories have long formed an important visual point of reference in her work. Familiar shapes of rockets and planets become objects whose surfaces continuously reveal new stories, weaving collective memory together with the artist’s own.

Come by and explore the exhibition! 🌟
Opening hours: September 26, October 10 / 17 / 24, from 3 – 7 pm and by appointment.

Join us for two exciting events this weekend! 💫

FRIDAY: September 18, 2026, 6–9 pm
We’re opening ‘Cosmologies at Play’, a solo exhibition by Polina Osipova. At 7 pm, join us for the performance ‘Cosmology at Play: Sliding towards the Ancient’ by Polina Osipova, with Ohii Katya @ohiikatya

SUNDAY: September 20, 2026, 3 pm
Polina Osipova will be in conversation with Kathrin Becker. The talk will be held in English and moderated by Kira Dell.

Polina Osipova (b. 1998, Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic) is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in the UK. Her practice explores Indigenous Chuvash legends and myths at the intersection of craft and the archaeology of collective memory. Drawing on the knowledge and expertise of her female ancestors, she reflects on inherited traditions through textiles and archival family photographs. These materials become a means to trace connections between past and future, both temporal and timeless, creating portals that bridge the digital age with the analogue.

Kathrin Becker is a curator and writer and has been Artistic Director and Chief Curator of KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art in Berlin-Neukölln since February 2020. After around a decade working as an independent curator, she headed the Video-Forum at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) from 2001 to 2019, where she also worked as a curator and managing director. From the outset of her curatorial practice, Becker has focused on intercultural questions that reflect on the redefinition of concepts of culture in Western Europe and post-communist countries through national, regional, and, above all, particular cultural-policy frameworks. From this, transnational questions within a global context emerged. Today, her work centres on the role of visual art in society as well as on the complex dynamics of exclusion and inclusion in contemporary cultures. Becker understands KINDL as a space for communication and as a laboratory for social questions. Contemporary art enables a critical examination of our globalised present and, in doing so, contributes to shaping a more conscious and compassionate world.

See you soon! 🌕 🫧

COMING SOON:
Polina Osipova, Cosmologies at Play
September 19 – October 25, 2026

Opening: September 18, 2026, 6 – 9 pm
Performance by Polina Osipova, Cosmology at Play: Sliding towards the Ancient: 7 pm

“Cosmologies at Play” is Polina Osipova’s first solo exhibition in Germany. The artist develops a walk-in playground installation at the project space Neun Kelche, drawing on standardized Soviet playground typologies — particularly cosmically designed play structures. Together with the curators, Osipova researches everyday architectures that were also widespread in Chuvashia, where she grew up. The exhibition connects Soviet imagery of progress with Chuvash cosmology, in which the cosmos is understood as a living, relational space and ancestors are conceived of as stars. Osipova examines how this indigenous worldview was reshaped by the Soviet narrative of space conquest, and how narratives of power and futurity inscribed themselves into children’s spaces of experience. The playground becomes legible as an ambivalent site: a space of play, hope and imagination — but equally one of control, normalization and ideological formation.

Opening hours: September 26, October 10 / 17 / 24, from 3 – 7 pm and by appointment

We hope you all had a wonderful summer break, and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming you back for our next opening! 🛝💛🪐

Welcome to our new team member Gina Ruhlandt @gina_rldt ⭐💛⭐

Art historian Gina Ruhlandt joined the team of Neun Kelche in May 2026.

She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Art and Visual History and Philosophy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and completed an Erasmus exchange at Université Paris Nanterre in 2023. Since 2022, she has worked as a freelance art educator for the Schering Stiftung and has also been involved with Techne Sphere Leipzig. She gained curatorial and organisational experience through internships at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, as well as through her two years of work with the Kleine Humboldt Galerie.

Her work explores questions of representation and visibility in visual culture, particularly within the context of queer-feminist art history. She is especially interested in perspectives that challenge established ways of seeing and draw attention to less visible lived experiences, as well as in curatorial practices that contextualise these positions within their broader social frameworks.

Very proud of this project <3

Fiction makes me nauseous
July 3–5, 2026

Artists: Mina Amiri Kalvøy, Lena Ditte Nissen, Felix Deiters, Agnė Jokšė, Areez Katki, Alexey Kokhanov, Julie Legouez, Melanie Jame Wolf, Mila Panić, Helena Uambembe

Co-curated by @sdl.lr and @kira.dell
Scenography by @jaschaundfranz
Part of @48stundennk
Material table by @berlinklusion

Fiction Makes Me Nauseous is a project curated by Kira Dell and Laura Seidel at Neukölln Speicher, combining an exhibition with a performance series across the entire time span of the 48 Hours Neukölln festival. In collaboration with scenographer Franz Thöricht, a spatial setting is created for ten artistic positions, each present in the exhibition through a spatial work and a public performance, interweaving personal narratives, theoretical thinking, and social questions.

I don’t make a big distinction between writing about “myself” and writing about “larger issues.” (Maybe I’m Emersonian in that way, or just feminist.)
—Maggie Nelson, in conversation with Micah McCrary

Time and again, the problematic aspects of autotheoretical modes of narration are pointed out, such as the centrality of personal experience or the risk of oversimplifying complex theoretical discourses. At the same time, we ask instead about the potentials of these forms of narration, which have become particularly popular in our present moment increasingly marked by social polarization and a diminishing understanding of other lived realities. For, in connection with the idea that “the personal is political,” the history of (intersectional) feminisms cannot be conceived without the intertwining of theory and practice. Autotheory, autoethnography, and biomythography offer alternative perspectives on social norms, systems of knowledge, and artistic self-constitution.

Fiction Makes Me Nauseous is a project curated by Kira Dell and Laura Seidel at Neukölln Speicher, combining an exhibition with a performance series across the 48 hours of the festival. In collaboration with scenographer Franz Thöricht @jaschaundfranz , spatial setting is created for ten artistic positions that interweave personal narratives, theoretical thinking, and social questions.

Increasingly, visual artists are drawing on methods of autotheory, autoethnography, and biomythography to connect personal experience with broader social concerns. Why is social analysis from a first-person perspective relevant – and how is the personal interior entangled with a larger exterior? Autotheoretical modes of storytelling are often met with critical scrutiny, particularly regarding the risk of simplifying complex theoretical discourses.

Yet Fiction Makes Me Nauseous asks about the potential of these forms of narration – especially in a present marked by polarization and a diminishing understanding of other lived realities. Following the notion that the personal is political, the stories of intersectional feminisms cannot be conceived without the entanglement of self-inquiry, theory, and social analysis.

THIS FRIDAY:

‘Activation Walk’ with Aurélie Pertusot, Monika Gabriela Dorniak, Paulette Penje, and Sarah Reva Mohr

Curated by Canberk Akçal @canberk.akcal
As part of Project Space Festival @projectspacefestival

June 12, 2026, 5 - 7:30 pm

Performance Program In Order:

The address for each performance can be found in the Activation Walk highlight and in our bio.

‘Mediator of Estrangement’ by Monika Gabriela Dorniak (17:00-17:45)

The poetic score-based performance walk ‘Mediator of Estrangement’ by Monika Gabriela Dorniak proposes a human-decentred approach of “being with” the environment. Participants are invited to activate ecosomatic scores that make us think with plants, breathe with bugs, and further immerse oneself in the experience with a local adaptation of nerve-strengthening Hildegard von Bingen cookies that may act as temporary “causae et curae” for politically destabilising times.

‘Watch Me Crash My Next Move’ by Paulette Penje (18:00-18:20)

Public space becomes a site of shared expectation, suspended between patience, tension, and the inevitable event. The work engages with the rules and conventions that shape our relationship to art and public space. Through acts of misuse, transgression, and bodily intervention, Paulette Penje shifts familiar meanings and explore how actions transform spaces.

‘Suspension Phases’ by Sarah Reva Mohr (18:40-19:00)

‘Suspension Phases’ explores our longings for moments of unknown outcomes. It delves into a lost place of happiness, the phenomenon of the ‘Horse Girl’, and the connection between betting, our sense of agency and social mobility. From station to station we dive into playful narratives in which control and chance briefly intersect.

‘Singing Megaphone Orchestra’ by Aurélie Pertusot (19:00-19:30)

‘Singing Megaphone Orchestra’ unfolds at the intersection of physical presence, sound, and the perception of space and time. Using 12 megaphones, pieces of wood, flute, cups, and four small prepared speakers, Pertusot’s composition establishes a precise dialogue between movement, sound, and architectural context.
