Our little gemini arrived to this world 10 days past her due date. It only took 20 hours (1200 minutes) of UNMEDICATED labor and natural birth to bring her soul to the earth side. All I could say upon meeting her was 'thank you for choosing me to be your mum'. I am honored your soul chose Pasha and I as your parents.

A woman's body is magical. My body's ability to produce natural drugs to help me endure the labor pain, only to completely erase my memory afterwards, is wild. I think Pasha was more traumatized by the birth process than I am 😅.

Pregnancy was perhaps one of the hardest things I've gone through physically. I was so sick with nausea, throwing up still well into the third trimester. I was intentional about finding a woman of colour as our midwife. I'm thankful for our uncredible midwife who guided me, got me mentally prepared for the beauty of the natural birth, and advocated on my behalf in every step.

Our little light came to the world alert, healthy, happy, and let us hear her voice right away. She's talkative, sleeps well through the night, and loves me reading to her. She may be a bit confused as we are speaking Russian, French, Kikongo, and Lingala to her 🤔😳😜

She loves, hanging out with her supportive community.  She loves nature hikes, looking at trees, and taking forest naps. She's gone camping with Colour the Trails community at 1 month old, crossed US boarder twice, slept through crankworx, went camping second time at 2 month old and now waiting for her passport to arrive to start exploring the world.

Thank you to everyone who sent us meals, came to visit, kept me company throughout my pregnancy, and extended so much grace and love to us.

It takes a village to raise a child. I'm thankful for our little village.

Thank you @kimlockhartphotography for capturing our journey!

“Mountaineering can seem unattainable.”

Colour the Trails (@colourthetrails) was founded by Judy Kasiama (@jujumil) in 2017 to offer affinity courses for Black, Indigenous, and people of color in disciplines ranging from windsurfing to mountain biking, and everything in between. The organization removes barriers to entry for participants by arranging logistics and supplying much of the specialized gear for each clinic.

In Issue 5, Emily Sullivan (@emelex) and Pavel Boiko (@neverbadtimeforchanges) bring us along for a closer look at a CTT mountaineering excursion up Mount Gordon in Canada, showcasing in vivid color the power of affinity spaces led by and for BIPOC adventurers.

Pick up a copy to read it for yourself and check out @colourthetrails to support and witness their ongoing journey.

Tribute to North Shore mountain biking classic trail - CBC. Spontaneous decision to do a solo ride and film the beauty of the area. What I thought the biggest challenges will be:
- harsh bright light at the beginning and quickly approaching darkness in the end;
- setting up angles for shooting;
- not breaking or losing gear while packing/unpacking for every stop;
- highly increased cardio with a lot of running up and down for each segment;
- not bothering other riders;
- editing.

The real struggle was? Choosing soundtrack! I openly admit I did not plan on it. Thus, it is far from great match.
Hesitated to post, but here it is. Have fun!

Oh, Iceland!
You are beautiful! And folks praise you for many reasons for a reason.
But... there are things to consider and stir some controversy.
1. Do good research. Or be rich. Because it is next level pricey.
2. Good luck trying to plan around everchanging weather.
3. If you try to do business with Icelanders , beware of "ÞETTA REDDAST". While generally it is a positive "it will all work out in the end". In reality, it means you might really stress not knowing if things will be done or not till last moment :)
4. The world looks different from a drone. So you will not see many things the way you see them on social media in real life.
5. We have not made it to Midlands. So I do not have a full picture. Otherwise, I will say the most controversial thing - Canadian Rockies are cooler!

Thanks for having us, Iceland! We might probably potentially come again.

Good bye 2023. You taught me a lot about relationships. You showed me some beautiful places. This is how I will remember this year:
1. "Tea" time at Mt. Assiniboine
2. Fruits, surfing, culture of Bali
3. Crispy sunny days near Anchorage, Alaska
4. Most relaxing week at @nimmobayresort
5. Second most relaxing week with @pacificencounters
6. Several adventures with @rivianofficial
7. Many hair flips of @jujumil
8. Beautiful landscapes of Iceland
9. How mad expensive it is in Iceland... :)
10. Value of community, getting out of comfort zone, and constant learning outside of our bubbles

Back in April spent a few beautiful days with @jujumil at the @nimmobayresort
The getaway was full of relaxation, mindfulness, yoga workshops, tasty food and drinks. The staff of the resort was exceptional and made every effort for us to enjoy the time in full.
While letting other guests to enjoy their time, I captured some moments of calmness of the visit. by @neverbadtimeforchanges

Sometimes you catch the wave. Sometimes the wave catches you.
But hey. There is another wave coming, catch that one.

Realized it has been a year since last post. But when you have no need to follow algorithms there is no rush with posting. Is IG still a thing? Are you still into those folks with millions of followers that supposed to "influence" you? What has been a highlight of the last year for you?
I have been hanging out with some cool folks in cool places. This is how July looked for me spending time in the Bugaboos area of BC, Canada by @neverbadtimeforchanges

Highlight of this trip stayed behind the photos. But I will share it here in words. Before leaving the dock Captain John told us that Porpoise is a very sturdy boat, with several trips to Hawaii and all. An hour into our trip, we got into a mild storm. Strong wind, big waves. Boat leaning at what felt 45°. Everyone was in a puking ready mode. I felt like we are in big trouble. But when I asked Captain John how would he rate this 'storm' on a scale of 10, he said around 4 or 5. I felt like 9... So don't think I would like to feel what is an actual 8 or 9 storm would be like.

Long story short, few hours later it all cooled down and we had fantastic 6 days on the water! Highly recommending a trip with @pacificencounters

Part 1 of "Unmasking the Diaspora" project in collaboration with @jujumil is posted on my blog. Link in bio. "As a Congolese diaspora, I find, the only way I can reconnect with my culture is through art, fashion, and music. It's those elements that I carry. It's the creativity of mask makers who told history, who celebrated, who remembered. As long as I remember my history, my culture, I can exist anywhere and everywhere." @jujumil

Huge props to @artncoregallery for trusting us with masks and @jarusha for sharing her equipment and making this shoot happen
