it’s the fifth annual ski retrospective that exactly five people care about! 2025 was not one for the books conditions-wise, but i managed to spend a good bit of time in the mountains, make a ski film with friends, and have a lot of fun. still so grateful for all of the places and friendships i’ve gotten to experience thanks to this silly sport ⛷️⛷️⛷️ @fischerski

i know I’ve been sharing a lot about @shapedbyland, but i wanted to take a proper moment to reflect on our world premiere at the 50th annual @banffmountainfestival. obviously, the festival is iconic—a dream for any outdoor filmmaker—but for me it also felt like coming home in an unexpected way.

i was fortunate enough to take part in the @banffcentre’s adventure filmmaker’s workshop last year, and being back on campus and the side of sacred buffalo guardian mountain—screening the very film i’d been pitching one year prior in the workshop—felt surreal.

it’s extremely true that filmmakers suffer for their art. i won’t get into the roller coaster of bringing this film to life, but i will once again thank the crew that stood with it from the beginning and made real sacrifices, and those who jumped in during the final stretch with enthusiasm and belief. the biggest thanks of all goes to @aadarmi who shared his story with patience, trust, collaboration, and enthusiasm ever since this idea surfaced almost three years ago.

this is an indie film with a small budget and we are working hard to get the film out in the world. please follow along with @shapedbyland to see where our film heads next and how to further engage with the story we set out to share!

Thank you for choosing me to be you mama. 2024 was ride. Like air, I'll rise!

2025 is all about protecting my heart, my work, and reclaiming my time.

Our little gemini arrived to this world 10 days past her due date. It only took 20 hours (1200 minutes) of UNMEDICATED labor and natural birth to bring her soul to the earth side. All I could say upon meeting her was 'thank you for choosing me to be your mum'. I am honored your soul chose Pasha and I as your parents.

A woman's body is magical. My body's ability to produce natural drugs to help me endure the labor pain, only to completely erase my memory afterwards, is wild. I think Pasha was more traumatized by the birth process than I am 😅.

Pregnancy was perhaps one of the hardest things I've gone through physically. I was so sick with nausea, throwing up still well into the third trimester. I was intentional about finding a woman of colour as our midwife. I'm thankful for our uncredible midwife who guided me, got me mentally prepared for the beauty of the natural birth, and advocated on my behalf in every step.

Our little light came to the world alert, healthy, happy, and let us hear her voice right away. She's talkative, sleeps well through the night, and loves me reading to her. She may be a bit confused as we are speaking Russian, French, Kikongo, and Lingala to her 🤔😳😜

She loves, hanging out with her supportive community.  She loves nature hikes, looking at trees, and taking forest naps. She's gone camping with Colour the Trails community at 1 month old, crossed US boarder twice, slept through crankworx, went camping second time at 2 month old and now waiting for her passport to arrive to start exploring the world.

Thank you to everyone who sent us meals, came to visit, kept me company throughout my pregnancy, and extended so much grace and love to us.

It takes a village to raise a child. I'm thankful for our little village.

Thank you @kimlockhartphotography for capturing our journey!

@zebpowelll and @selema ,

Words fail to capture the profound impact of the space you've cultivated. I am endlessly grateful to be part of a community that embodies such purity and elevation, centered in Blackness and Excellence. Bringing a piece of Memphis to me fulfilled a longing in my soul that had been searching for connection with the outdoors for over a decade. It’s been a soul sucking journey, and having M-town at Culture Shifters rocked my Soul – it’s not easy getting out of our neighborhoods. This space became a sanctuary of healing for me—I finally felt able to exhale, rest, and spread my wings to their fullest extent.

Witnessing Black men immersed in safety - absolute Blackness and Pure Joy - Made My Heart EXPLODE. I seen Black Men Fly and Stand in Greatness.

The Essence of Blackness, the Roots of Indigeneity, the Bond of Black Sisterhood, the Strength of Collective Community, the Richness of Culture—having ownership and leadership within our own communities is not just an act of revolution but a right that has been systematically denied to us.

Thank you @george_burton_carpenter for being the catalyst to such a deep and profound space – Sending my deepest gratitude to the @burton family @zebpowelll @selema @redbullusa @Limelighthotel @aspensnowmass @fattire @ikonpass @anonoptics @yeti

Team @burtoncultureshifters and the advisory committee deepest Thank you ♥️ I can exhale 🙏🏾

I am a bit behind on reflecting on this past year, but one mega highlight was my time at Colour the Slopes, a @colourthetrails event at @revelstokemtnresort last month.

They invited me to speak (so thankful) and I also got to go on a sidecountry/backcountry tour. I was afraid I would be out of my depth in the terrain, but the guides at @capowguiding kept me safe and joyful and each member of my @colourthetrails community who joined the tour was so super supportive!

When you’re learning a new skill it’s hard to see improvement- it always feels like your growth edge is sharp; you’re hyper-aware of technique that continues to elude your grasp. Only with reflection and a little grace do I now see that I’m getting somewhere.

I’m also deeply grateful to @edge_pnw @yo_annamae @ematalavage and @alexandraroberts for my progression.

I met the best people at Colour the Slopes, including @emelex who captured these dreamy shots. Thank you Emily 🖤
