It's GRAMMY® season!

If you happen to be a voting member of the Recording Academy, please take a moment to listen to Momenta's world premiere recording of Carnatic String Quartet by the esteemed American composer and music theorist Robert Morris (b. 1943), released by @new.world.records, and consider casting your vote in our and Robert Morris' favor!

It's on the ballot in these two GRAMMY® categories:
-Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance: Momenta Quartet
-Best Contemporary Classical Composition: Robert Morris: Carnatic String Quartet

Even if you are not a voting member of the Academy, some of you may have heard us perform the Carnatic String Quartet live at the @eastman.school or at our 2023 #MomentaFestival. It's a powerful piece of music, and a milestone in Robert Morris' output, as it seamlessly combines his deep knowledge of South Indian Carnatic music with his rigorous approach to Western contemporary classical composition in a completely unique way.

New World Records is excited to announce the release of Julius Hemphill: DOGON A.D. on compact disc.

Meticulously remastered, the package includes a 28-page booklet with new notes by Marty Ehrlich, complemented by several stills [presented here against an excerpt from the recording] from a 30-minute film of an early ’70s dance performance featuring complete performances of Dogon A.D. and Rites with Hemphill, Baikida Carroll, Phillip Wilson, and John Hicks.

This, at long last, is the definitive edition of this seminal jazz masterwork. by @new.world.records

Remembering Larry Polansky, prolific and influential composer, performer, educator, publisher, theorist, and pioneer of algorithmic music. Larry was a dear and benevolent friend to New World Records, and a genuine mensch in a world where those can be counted on one hand. Larry passed on May 9 and will be deeply missed. by @new.world.records

Ecstatic congratulations to Kate Soper (@katesopermusic) on the (at long last) staging of her phenomenal "The Romance of the Rose" by @longbeachopera, directed by @darrah_fawcett with Christopher Rountree conducting. Illuminating review by @zwoolfe (link in bio).⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In 2018, New World released Soper’s monumental "Ipsa Dixit", an evening-length work of chamber music theatre, performed by @wetink.ensemble, for voice, flute, violin, and percussion that explores music, language, and meaning through blistering ensemble virtuosity and extended vocal technique.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Final performance of "Romance" on Saturday, Feburary 25. Toi, toi toi, Kate! (Photo of composer: @lizlinderphotography) ⁣
