Rep. LaMonica McIver says one of the toughest parts of facing federal charges hasn’t been the courtroom—it’s feeling like she’s been left to fight alone. The New Jersey congresswoman is accused of assaulting and interfering with federal officers during a confrontation outside Newark’s Delaney Hall ICE detention center, though she says she was carrying out her congressional oversight duties.

Do you think she’s being treated fairly? by @newarkblack

Senator Cory Booker (@corybooker) is now engaged to Alexis Lewis! The two met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend in 2024 and have been together ever since. Lewis, who works in real estate investment, now lives with Booker in Washington, D.C.

****
Via @corybooker: Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life. She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.

I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!

I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée.

We are excited for this journey ahead, having so much fun, and feeling deeply grateful for the love, support, and energy so many of you have shared with us. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful community lifting us in love and commitment.

For 22 years, @joimebane @thelookbyjoi has built a thriving business by mastering the art of entrepreneurship. This summer, she partnered with the @cityofatlanta @andreforatlanta to teach the next generation of youth essential business skills like planning, financial literacy, marketing and most importantly, confidence to believe in themselves and their potential.

This opportunity aligned perfectly with Joi’s goal to empower young entrepreneurs to start strong and build lasting legacies, while supporting the City’s mission to create meaningful opportunities for youth growth and success. by @newarkblack

Via @blackenterprise … Kevon Carter and Prince Abidoye, founders of Plant Base, are launching New Jersey’s first Black-owned cannabis dispensary and cultural hub.

Their vision for @plantbasenj extends beyond retail, with plans for a creative community space for events, podcasts, and cannabis consumption, aiming to reshape the traditional dispensary model.

Despite funding and real estate challenges, they’ve raised over $500K and retained 90% ownership, working toward a Fall/Winter 2024 opening. taken in Plainfield, New Jersey by @newarkblack
