Inspired by the dynamic interplay of light, colour and pattern found within nature these ceramic pieces are painted with delicate gradations of colour and intricate tessellating shapes positioned precisely around each vessel.

Image 1. Reflection - The dappled effect of light reflected on the water surface is the inspiration for these pieces. Decorated with a mosaic of diamond shaped colours with triangular shapes of transparent glaze.

Image 2. Flow - Zig zags bend, split and wrap around each diamond shape like linear ripples around pebbles in a stream.

Image 3. Crystal - Decorated with an optical lattice framework. The 3D diamond pattern has a glassy transparency inspired by the facets and colours found within crystals.

They are part of my new collection made since winning Surrey Artist of the Year 2025 and are currently on display @newashgate in Farnham until 7th November. A big thank you to everyone at the Gallery for displaying my work so well. Click on the link in my bio for more information.

Meet Surrey Artist of the Year 2026 finalist Sophie Brogden.

Sophie combines traditional printmaking with more sustainable approaches.

Her intricate linocuts begin with observational drawings of flowers and foliage from her garden and allotment. Her practice also includes aquatint etching and detailed prints made from upcycled Tetra Pak.

Across these different processes, Sophie explores movement, light and the forms found in nature.

Congratulations to Clover Lee – New Ashgate Gallery's Festival of Crafts Award Winner!

We are delighted to announce that Clover Lee, exhibiting with Design-Nation at Farnham's Festival of Crafts, has been selected for the New Ashgate Gallery Award 2026!

The award offers Clover a solo exhibition at New Ashgate Gallery in 2027, giving her the opportunity to showcase her work to new audiences and take the next step in her creative career.

At New Ashgate Gallery, we are passionate about recognising and supporting exceptional early-career talent. We believe that outstanding emerging makers deserve opportunities to develop their practice, build their reputation and reach new audiences.

Meet Surrey Artist of the Year 2026 finalist Sarah Cox.

Sarah’s landscape paintings are filled with colour, texture and energetic mark-making..l

Responding to the changing seasons, she uses gestural lines and layered surfaces to explore the meeting point between the character of the landscape and the physical qualities of paint.
Alongside her studio practice, Sarah works as a secondary school art teacher.

One of the best things about working at New Ashgate Gallery? Supporting the next generation of creative talent!

We loved welcoming second-year students from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) to the gallery this week!

Supporting artists at the start of their careers is one of our favourite parts of what we do. Through our Early Career Pathways programme, we help young talent build confidence, develop professional skills and explore opportunities in the creative industries.

Meet Surrey Artist of the Year 2026 finalist Lorelei Hopkins.

Lorelei creates atmospheric landscapes and seascapes from memory and intuition, responding to space, changing light and the natural world.
The English coastline and her travels are important sources of inspiration. A self-taught painter, Lorelei was recently selected as a Wildcard Artist for Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, painting at Brimham Rocks in North Yorkshire.

Meet Surrey Artist of the Year 2026 finalist Liane Matthews.

Texture is central to Liane’s ceramics. Inspired by shells, rocks, pebbles and other tactile forms found in nature, she creates animals, vessels, torsos and sculptural pieces.

Words and verse also appear within some works, printed using type inherited from her father, a typesetter, giving these pieces an added personal connection.

Meet Surrey Artist of the Year 2026 finalist Stephanie Draper.

Maps sit at the heart of Stephanie’s paintings and prints.

Her current work follows the River Wey through Surrey, exploring landscape, land ownership and our relationship with the environment. Other pieces consider how Farnham has changed since the nineteenth century, using maps to look at wider environmental and social questions.
