Big shout out to the legends from @dimesounds. Couple of massive shows coming up on their UK tour.

Head over to their instagram for tickets and full details!

13th August - The Canteen BRISTOL
18th August - SJQ - LONDON
19th August - ALPHABET BRIGHTON

DIME create ambient dystopian soundscapes, anthemic Melodies and deep driving club beats, reminiscent of the early 00’s. ’Sitting Stealth’ is DIME’s 3rd release and marks their first time collaborating with other artists. The new EP explores the challenges of modern life, the influence that media and technology have on our collective consciousness and the struggle to remain authentic, compassionate and united in increasingly uncertain times. Featuring vocals from Arjuna Oakes, Soren Bryce and Verushka as well as two instrumentals, both heavily inspired by UK dance music and recorded in a single improvised take. DIME will be joined by special guest vocalist Verushka. An artist, producer and DJ based in South London whose music collapses earthy, moving soundscapes into jazz-tinged, soulful compositions. Her self-written and arranged 2022 album Not Even Bliss received support from BBC London, 6 Music and Jazz FM. Now, after hermitting away in her SE London studio and spending time building her session and DJ career, Verushka is back with new music. Support from Sandy Buglass Trio, London-based instrumental band blending jazz-influenced improvisation, post-hardcore energy, and post-rock ambience into a sound that is both angular and melodic. The trio focuses on raw live performance, drawing influence from artists such as Omar Rodríguez-López, Bill Frisell, and Mark Hollis. taken in A L P H A B E T Brighton by @newgenjazz

Essa & J-Felix present The Fifth Foundation at Love Supreme on the @newgenjazz stage part of @alphabetbrighton presents

A mix of soul, funk, jazz and hip-hop, but really it just sounded like a band enjoying themselves and doing it well.

Really strong set from a relatively new line up. Bunch of legends too.

“Unshakeable” — out 3 July 🎶

TONIGHT! October 2nd! Tickets still available!!

Esha & J-Felix presents - THE FIFTH FOUNDATION
@alphabetbrighton

“so refreshing…both contemporary and timeless” - Wordplay Magazine

UK hip-hop titan Essa joins forces with groove architect J-Felix to launch The Fifth Foundation, a supergroup bridging rap’s golden era with the vibrant rhythms of the modern jazz underground.

Flanked by a formidable ensemble, including vocalists Avijè and Vanya Lyma, trumpeter Jack Kendon, and legendary drummer Richard Spaven - Essa addresses truth, ego, and generational legacy over J-Felix’s slick blend of neo-soul, funk, and live-instrumentation.

Translating their ambitious debut LP into a dynamic live entity, the collective expands to a full-blown band for this show. If you managed to catch them at this years Love Supreme festival - you’ll know what to expect - sharp lyricism, live brass, high vibes, and roots-deep soul.

Performed and recorded with the likes of: Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Wu-Tang Clan, Guru, Slum Village, Pharoahe Monch, Swindle, Kojey Radical, Mahalia and Alice Russell.

Support from Osk

Osk is an exciting and original voice from Brighton, who crafts a sound rooted in UK hip hop, soul, jazz and funk. His music reflects both personal experience and wider social awareness shaped by growing up in this country.
This is an 18+ event

We are very excited to bring the sensational Jazz Futures Ensemble to We Out Here Festival this Sunday 23rd August at 11.30am on the @tom_warriors Big Top Stage.

Jazz Futures ensemble features some of the brightest voices in UK Jazz. Already with a succession of jam packed shows at Brighton Jazz Festival, Brighton Dome, & Love Supreme Jazz Festival and now the mighty @weoutherefest . This exciting group delivers an explosive and energetic performance which showcases specially commissioned pieces complimenting their unique jump-up, new-wave sounds.

Jazz Futures ensemble is born from a youth music programme created by New Generation Jazz which is dedicated to celebrating the abundance of young musical talent across the South of the UK. It offers free weekly workshops and band classes under the leadership of respected educators Matt Ellis, Claire Ellis, Charlotte Glasson and Bjorn Dahlberg with a range of guest tutors including some biggest names on the world stage offering their expertise, and compositional works for our NGJF ensembles to perform.

Some of the guest tutors we have worked with are Ife Ogunjobi, Emma Rawicz, Camilla George, Randy Brecker, Allexa Nava, Moses Boyd, Keyon Harrold, and Binker Golding to name only a few.

I was photographing the @newgenerationjazz stage at @lovesupremefest when @orbit_quartet played, and they were staggeringly good. Even when you take their age completely out of the equation, they were one of the most exciting bands I saw all weekend.

@otiscarter on keys, @alfieobrien83 on guitar, @blackledge.max on drums and @makingavantgarde_stuff_ on sax. They met through the New Generation Jazz programme in Brighton, where they developed their understanding of jazz, collaboration and playing together as a band.

ORBIT are another example of why organisations like New Generation Jazz matter. NGJ has been supporting emerging musicians and bringing the new wave of British jazz to Brighton for more than a decade. Back in 2016, they booked a then up-and-coming @ezracollective to perform at Love Supreme. Ten years later, Ezra returned as headliners and curators, while the NGJ stage continued feeding through the next generation of extraordinary musicians.

The musicianship is ridiculous, but what really struck me was how complete ORBIT already feel. Locked in, inventive, controlled and completely alive on stage.

They also threw in a brilliant live reworking of the @mrgoldie track inner city.

Their brilliant five-track self-titled EP is out now. Listen through the link in @orbit_quartet’s bio.

𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝗚𝗜𝗚: this Friday 24 July at @the_bread_and_roses_pub in Clapham, supporting NEWAVE and featuring Rico J. Doors at 7.30pm.
