i can not express enough what this man has done for me through simple and often complex conversations over the years. it began at Rutgers as my chairperson for my thesis. He said “you could have written this in half the pages and i would have signed it, you need to make a decision if your going to be a writer, an artist or a revolutionary”. he would introduce me to his friends as “the future”. i am forever grateful for him in my life i will miss his keen sense of humor and his brilliant mind. when he retired from Rutgers in 2002 they asked him who could teach his classes and he replied with Brice or Lenochan. i loved him like a father, there was something special about our relationship that i reflect on constantly. He would always ask about the girls. He is a GIANT in American Art, and as genuine as they come. i will miss him dearly. rest easy Mel, “all i ever tried to do was make the world a better place”. thats exactly what he has done. peace Mr Melvin Edwards your incredible mark has been made in this world! much love and respect ✊🏽 ❤️💚🖤🌍 by @newhumans
