Every Tuesday, The Engine Room at The Exchange becomes a place to meet, make and connect. 🤝

Since 2019, this much-loved weekly programme has provided a free and welcoming space for older people who may otherwise experience loneliness or face barriers to taking part in creative activities. 💛

💷 Tea, Cake & Art costs more than £15,000 a year to run. Your donation, whatever the size, can help us keep the programme free for everyone who needs it. Our fundraising each year helps ensure the group can continue running the following year. 🌱

For Tea, Cake & Art members, it’s a chance to try something new, see familiar faces, feel connected and enjoy being part of a regular community. 🫶

There’s growing evidence that taking part in creative and cultural activities can support our wellbeing as we get older. 🌿

✦ ZED LOVE: CLOSING PERFORMANCE & IN CONVERSATION

Join Libita Sibungu for a live performance of the exhibition vocal score 'un-settle-un-stable', with collaborators Maria Christoforidou, Caroline Deeds, Catherine Lucktaylor and Angeline Morrison, marking the closing week of 'ZED LOVE'.

Libita will explore writing with notes as an embodied, exhibition-making process, followed by an in-conversation with sound artist Neil Rose, who worked with Libita on the realisation and composition of the exhibition’s sound work.

▪️Levelling session focusing on grading standards, assessment objectives, and student progression.

▪️Questions: What does the art & design gcse and a level landscape in cornwall look like today? How can truro college’s art, design & photography department support schools? Action research with Sue Loydell, lecturer in art & design at Truro College

▪️Drawing, movement & line. a practical workshop delivered by artist and choreographer Kyra Norman

▪️Curriculum in the arts – what are we striving for? whether you are delivering a connected curriculum across a mat, a shared curriculum across your school or are the only art teacher at your organisation, what are your priorities for a curriculum that is inspiring and adaptable and serves your students? Peer-led by Amy Green (@amy___elizabeth___)art lead at St Ives School and art curriculum lead for TPAT.

🧶 FAMILY WEAVING WORKSHOP | HALF TERM

Looking for a creative activity this half term? 🎨 Join textile artist and local mum Laylah @yarn.gather in The Engine Room for a fun, hands-on family weaving workshop!

♻️ Children aged 5–12 will learn to make their own weaving frame from found materials and create a unique woven fabric using recycled finds, yarn and scrap materials from local businesses.

🧵 No experience needed! Everything is provided, and each child will take home a finished piece to frame or hang on the wall, plus the skills to make their own loom at home.

👨‍👧 Tickets include one child and one adult, with tiered pricing to help make the workshop accessible to everyone.

Touch-down in Penzance and I’m @newlynexchange getting some inspiration for tomorrow’s somatic Voice and Rhythm workshop, paired with the current ZED LOVE exhibition.

🎶Voice, Rhythm & Belonging Workshop, for People of Colour aged 18+

Super honoured to be invited by artist @libitasibungu to contribute to this multi sensory extravaganza!

In the workshop we’ll explore the Afro-diasporic journey and experiences of identity, migration and belonging, using voice, rhythm, movement and creative play. Through somatically-attuned practices and approaches, we’ll clap, stomp, sing, move, and explore ways of tapping into our authentic expression, whilst accessing the body’s innate wisdom and creativity.

🎨 INTRODUCING SHARP AT NEWLYN ART GALLERY as part of our Autumn Group Show. 🍂

@sharp_the_artist brings us ‘AWAKENING’ and ‘Lavender Menace’. Both presented currently in The Picture Room until 31 OCT🌿

🎞️ ‘AWAKENING’ is a newly produced limited-edition cassette tape, recorded live on ‘To Moor The Sun’, alongside photographs from SHARP’s ‘Lavender Menace’ series, which situates coded lesbian identity via clothing and flowers as reclaimed resistance.

SHARP is a queer working-class, socially engaged artist, activist and producer whose interdisciplinary approach moves between experimental video, photography, sculpture and sound installations. Their work is held in national public and private collections. 🖼️

Today marked the last in-person session at The Bread Line in Penzance for our community-curated project with @st.petrocs

During the ten sessions our Programme Curator & Learning Lead Rebecca English and art fascilitator Theo Carter Webber have worked with St Petroc clients. 👥 Each week has begun in the same way: gathering around a table to share food, conversation and time together before exploring a selection of portraits from the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection. 🖼️

After finalising the works from @nationalportraitgallery, which will be on display at The Exchange next year, we enjoyed a visit back to The Exchange to look and engage with ZED LOVE by @libitasibungu ✨

🙏🏽Huge thanks goes out to @theocarterweber for facilitating in such thought provoking and engaging ways, to our funders of this project The Headley Trust and @pzcouncil and our partner The National Portrait Gallery.👌🏾

We can’t wait to share this exhibition with you in the Summer next year.

PENZANCE! Our next gig is at the amazing @figattheexchange on the 7th November. This will be our only show in the local area for a while so make sure you don’t miss out, this will be a super chilled candlelight show with some amazing food and drinks on the go from the venue.
