➡️Spent a week in Encinitas doing yoga with a special dude and his awesome daughter. #ManjuJois (82), son of #PattabhiJois (founder / creator of #AshtangaVinyasa Yoga and arguably the progenitor of #vinyasayoga in the western world) started assisting his dad when he was 7, and has been teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for over 60 years. His daughter, Sathu (24), has been assisting her dad since she was little, and now she teaches at their home shala in Encinitas, nationally, AND internationally, and will carry on the lineage. Manju learned Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga directly from his dad, and It was such a “breath of fresh air” to learn of and practice under Manju and Sathu’s flexible, creative, and lighthearted approach. Different in many ways to the common mainstream paradigm of ashtanga being “militant,” “orthodox,” and/or “one-size-fits-all.” What a treat to have spent 5 days practicing Mysore style yoga, pranayama, chanting mantra, having insightful discussions, and eating great home-cooked food with Manju and Sathu. Thank you GuruGreg Go for this opportunity and to Swaran for hosting!🙏🏼🕉️

p.s. Manju likes to play music during asana practice… usually Hindu chanting or Indian classical / ragas, but he also really likes #JimCroce taken in Encinitas, California by @newrajayoga
