A Niall McDevitt Celebration
Wed 21 Feb, 8 pm

NEW TICKETS JUST RELEASED. NEW VENUE.

We SOLD OUT the National Poetry Library! So, so moved to see the DEMAND for Niall's work. But good news for those who didn't get tickets: we have a new, slightly larger venue, Weston Roof Pavilion, also in the Southbank Centre. (Link in bio for tickets. Book now to avoid disappointment.)

Niall McDevitt (1967 – 2022) was a psychogeographer-poet who trod the steps of great rebels such as Blake, Rimbaud, and Joyce. On February 21st, the day before his 57th birthday, poets and writers who love McDevitt’s work will introduce each of his four witty, wise, and wild collections. Join us to hear:

- LONDON NATION (2022) introduced by the iconic keeper of lost cultures, Iain Sinclair

- FIRING SLITS (2016) introduced by our own @robertmontgomeryghost and @gretabellamacina

- PORTERLOO (2012) introduced by the award-winning poet, translator, and lecturer James Byrne

- B/W (2010) introduced by the singular poet, musician, and artist MacGillivray (aka Kirsten Norrie)

Tickets are available from the Southbank Centre’s website. LINK IN BIO. Love to all. by @newriverpress

“Parrots” is the first book of Robert Montgomery’s work since 2015. A complete survey of Montgomery’s entire body of work with a special section dedicated to his paintings. Many works previously unpublished. A 440 page catalogue raisonee hard bound and beautifully printed on 200gsm art paper. Published by New River Press in February 2022, this book is a heavyweight addition to your art library.

As the January sun shines on the nation of London, we wish you all a happy New Year, merry Burns Night, and wild Imbolc, the Celtic festival on February 1st marking the midpoint between Winter and Summer solstices.

We are pleased to invite you to join us at the Southbank Centre's National Poetry Library on Wednesday 21st February in order to celebrate the remarkable poetry of Niall McDevitt (1967 – 2022) -- Blakean freethinker and activist psychogeographer who uncovered the steps of many great poets.

This event is structured around McDevitt's four published full collections: b/w (2010), Porterloo (2012), Firing Slits (2016) and London Nation (2022).

We are honoured that the great Iain Sinclair will speak on McDevitt's final (or should we say, most recent) work, London Nation - available to order now from New River Press.

The rest of McDevitt's sage, solemn, and witty oeuvre will be investigated by James Byrne, MacGillivray, and our own Robert Montgomery and Greta Bellamacina.

McDevitt’s death at the age of 55 propelled him to greater recognition, leaving behind a mythical, radical and musical legacy

Niall organised several events in tribute to countercultural poets, such as Harry Fainlight, Arthur Rimbaud, and John Clare, including at the National Poetry Library.

Today, we carry his spirit of tribute forward in this community of poets, writers, musicians, and artists to admire his wild offerings. Gather this evening to pay tribute.

Tickets are available from the Southbank Centre's website. Space in the National Poetry Library is limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

We look forward to seeing you there. It has been too long.

With love,
