Less than a month left to apply to the Winter Resiedncy with Nextfab and the Musuem for Art in Wood!

The Winter Residency Program is a a 2-month long Wood centered residency that runs from January to March of 2027, and is oriented towards artists and designers based in the greater Philadelphia region, who hold a commitment to environmental stewardship and are pursuing research-based inquiries into a sustainable creative practice.

The Winter Residency Program is a collaboration between the Museum and membership-based maker space @nextfab_phl. Each year, the two organizations assemble a jury of makers and educators to award one fellowship to an artist in the region who works either solely in wood or with other materials in combination with wood and demonstrates technical proficiency with woodworking equipment. The fellow receives a stipend for project materials and access to NextFab’s workshop space. Reflecting the Museum and NextFab’s support of environmental stewardship, reclaimed wood must comprise at least 50 percent of the fellow’s work during the residency.

The Residency runs from January 4 through March 4, 2026, and culminates in a solo exhibition at NextFab Maker Space.

Join instructor Lia Huntington on Saturday, October 10th (12:00 pm - 4:00 pm) for our open to the public Make Your Own Enamel Leaf Earrings workshop. This is a hands-on session designed to introduce you to the art of fusing glass to metal. You’ll cover everything from surface prep and powder application to sifting enamel frit and firing. Step by step, you'll design, fire, and finish your very own custom leaf earrings or charms.

Can’t make the weekend session? No worries! We’ve added a weekday class on Thursday, October 22nd (3:30 pm - 7:30 pm). Link in our bio to register!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our Jewelry & Stone Swap to connect with fellow local makers and hang out with our NextFab fam. The energy in the room was truly amazing, from Cody Heller’s incredible live stone-setting demo to Mike’s impressive rock collection and wonderful insights from local geologist. It was so wholesome to see our talented members share their passion with the community.

It was a joy to welcome Elaine Smith, our 2026 Leeway x NextFab art and technology resident, as she kicked off a beautiful day of music, movement and community with Bloco Oyá.

Led by the powerful sounds of the intergenerational community Bloco Afro, the parade brought neighbors of all ages into the streets, complete with Samba Foundation dancers and the debut of Elaine’s new surdo parade contraption.
