🏳️‍⚧️ WE MADE HISTORY, ROCHESTER! 🏳️‍⚧️

Yesterday was POWER. Yesterday was LOVE. Yesterday was LIBERATION. Yesterday was TRANS JOY.

On September 5, our community came together for the first-ever Rochester Trans Pride Festival, and more than 400 people moved through International Plaza throughout the day to celebrate, connect, dance, heal, and simply EXIST in JOY.

And now, September 5 has officially been recognized as TRANSGENDER DAY OF JOY in the City of Rochester and Monroe County! 🏳️‍⚧️✨

That matters.

In a time when transgender people are so often asked to defend our existence, Rochester made space to celebrate it.

Our visibility is POWER.
Our joy is RESISTANCE.
Our love is LIBERATION.
And our existence is HISTORY.

There is SO much more to share — the people, the performances, the proclamations, the awards, the vendors, the community resources, and every person who helped bring this vision to life.

For now, we just want to say:

THANK YOU, ROCHESTER. WE DID THAT. 🏳️‍⚧️💗

For too long, decisions have been made about transgender, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, and questioning communities without enough data, investment, or direct input from the people most impacted.

At a time when our communities continue to face attacks, erasure, barriers to healthcare, housing instability, economic hardship, and threats to our wellbeing, it is more important than ever that our experiences are documented and our voices are heard.

Today, Next Generation Men of Transition is proud to launch the Rochester–Monroe County TGNC Community Needs Assessment 2026.

This community-led effort will help identify service gaps, strengthen advocacy efforts, support future funding opportunities, inform community programming, and contribute to Rochester’s first-ever Trans Pride Fest and Community Impact Report.

The data does not lie.

Transgender, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, and questioning people are alive. We are here. We are building community. We are thriving. And we deserve to be seen, heard, supported, and invested in.

Hello, my Rochester family. I’m at it again!

Tomorrow is Pasta Thursday, and there’s a plate with your name on it. Picture it: warm, creamy Broccoli Alfredo, and you get to choose how you want it. Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. Shrimp Broccoli Alfredo. Or Broccoli Alfredo, simple and perfect just as it is. And because you deserve something sweet, there’s a special dessert waiting at the end.

Every option is for you. Nobody has to earn it, and nobody has to explain themselves.

But I want you to know this meal is about more than pasta.
I’m going to tell you why, because I believe in being honest with the people I love.

I know what it’s like not to have food. I know what it’s like to be homeless. And I know what it’s like to do survival sex work just to get my next meal.

I’m not saying that for sympathy. I’m saying it because some of you might be carrying something similar, and I want you to hear someone say it out loud, with no shame. Survival is not shameful. You did what you had to do to make it, and I honor that.

When I was hungry, I wished someone would see me, and feed me, without asking for anything in return. So that’s what I’m doing now.

I do this because I love this community. Deeply. Fiercely.

And I refuse to let our people go through what I went through. No one in our community should have to want for food. No one should have to trade their safety, their body, or their dignity for a meal.

Because when we feed each other, we’re saying we belong to each other.
So tomorrow, when you take that first warm bite, I want you to remember something.

That plate is a promise. It says someone thought of you. Someone cooked for you. Someone is glad you’re here.

To every Trans and Non-binary person: you don’t have to be anything other than who you already are.

You are seen. You are safe. And you are celebrated.

We will see you tomorrow!

ONE WEEK LATER… ROCHESTER, LOOK WHAT WE DID TOGETHER.

One week ago, more than 400 people moved through International Plaza for Rochester’s first-ever Trans Pride Festival.

And what we built was bigger than an event.

We built a space where transgender people could dance, laugh, perform, access resources, connect across generations, love on one another and simply LIVE.

We watched local community stand beside national partners who recognized what was being built right here in Rochester and chose to INVEST in it.

We watched JOY become an act of liberation.

And on that same day, both the City of Rochester and Monroe County officially recognized September 5 as TRANSGENDER DAY OF JOY.

Our community knows remembrance. We know vigils. We know fighting to survive.

But on September 5, we gathered because we are ALIVE.

Today, we're sharing our official ONE WEEK LATER recap, including a video from this historic day, media coverage, reflections, photos, and ways you can help carry this work forward.

Because joy without investment is merely a moment.

We're building a movement.

And stay tuned…

Rochester Trans Pride will return in 2027.

This was the first.
