POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello, my Rochester family. I’m at it again!

Tomorrow is Pasta Thursday, and there’s a plate with your name on it. Picture it: warm, creamy Broccoli Alfredo, and you get to choose how you want it. Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. Shrimp Broccoli Alfredo. Or Broccoli Alfredo, simple and perfect just as it is. And because you deserve something sweet, there’s a special dessert waiting at the end.

Every option is for you. Nobody has to earn it, and nobody has to explain themselves.

But I want you to know this meal is about more than pasta.
I’m going to tell you why, because I believe in being honest with the people I love.

I know what it’s like not to have food. I know what it’s like to be homeless. And I know what it’s like to do survival sex work just to get my next meal.

I’m not saying that for sympathy. I’m saying it because some of you might be carrying something similar, and I want you to hear someone say it out loud, with no shame. Survival is not shameful. You did what you had to do to make it, and I honor that.

When I was hungry, I wished someone would see me, and feed me, without asking for anything in return. So that’s what I’m doing now.

I do this because I love this community. Deeply. Fiercely.

And I refuse to let our people go through what I went through. No one in our community should have to want for food. No one should have to trade their safety, their body, or their dignity for a meal.

Because when we feed each other, we’re saying we belong to each other.
So tomorrow, when you take that first warm bite, I want you to remember something.

That plate is a promise. It says someone thought of you. Someone cooked for you. Someone is glad you’re here.

To every Trans and Non-binary person: you don’t have to be anything other than who you already are.

You are seen. You are safe. And you are celebrated.

We will see you tomorrow!

Black and Brown trans people have the vision. The expertise. The leadership. Our work is to put resources intention and care behind it. 💐✊🏾

Swipe through to see how the we move that commitment into action through three main programs:

💜 Marsha Cares starts with listening. Our annual national survey helps guide our ongoing community support and relationships with Black and Brown trans led organizations. The people living the realities help shape the response.

💸 Pride Corps puts a check behind local expertise. Through paid consulting and tabling opportunities on our national Pride Tour, Black and Brown trans folx represent MPJI, share resources, and connect us with the communities they know and love. That knowledge deserves compensation.

✨ Marshal of Joy program invests in Black trans leaders through a yearlong paid residency. Each ambassador receives a $10,000 personal stipend and a $10,000 event budget, alongside mentorship, training, and support to bring their community’s joy to life.

And this work moves through relationships. This post highlights organizations we’ve worked alongside, including My Sistah’s House, The Okra Project, TransLatin@ Coalition, Divas in Dialogue, and more. Pour into their work, too. Collective power takes all of us. When you Donate and support MPJI you are fueling a movement that doubles down on the people.

This is how we carry Marsha’s legacy forward: listening to our people, paying well for their labor, and investing in what they’re building, in our UNITY.

Explore our programs at MarshaP.org, follow us for opportunities, and become a monthly donor to help sustain the work. Black and Brown trans leadership deserves sustained investment. 🩵

Rochester Trans Pride Fest was a whole MOVIE. 🎬💜

The joy. The visibility. The people. The energy. The reminder that when Black and Brown trans people have room to gather, celebrate, lead, and be fully seen, WE MAKE HISTORY.

Big love to NGMT, Brittan Hardgers, and the entire Trans Pride Fest committee for bringing this vision to life and creating something Rochester and trans history will remember. MPJI was proud to show up, pour in, and stand alongside the people who made this moment possible, we deserve it.

And trust us… this was just the beginning.

The official MPJI Trans Pride Fest Rochester recap is coming. 👀💜

Stay close. You’re going to want to see what we built together.

POLISH Media is proud to be the official media sponsor of the first-ever Rochester Trans Pride.

@nextgenmenoftransition, along with @mpjinstitute and @wavewomeninc, build rooms that didn’t exist before. We’re honored to be in this one.

We read the headlines about us every morning, and we’ll keep reporting those stories with every ounce of seriousness they deserve. But sorrow is not the whole of our existence. Somebody fell in love this summer. Somebody got their name changed and cried in the DMV parking lot. Some ody embarked on the next leg of their personal or professional journey.

Our joy, our hopes, and our dreams deserve a byline, too.

Come find the POLISH Media booth on this Saturday:
• Grab a pamphlet.
• Learn what we’re building, because we’re building it for you.
• Sit for an interview to share your trans joy.

Thank you to Next Generation Men of Transition, the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, and W.A.V.E. Women Inc. for making this day real. And to the trans forebears who cleared this ground and didn’t live to see it. We’re saying their names and carrying their joy with us this weekend.

See you there, Rochester.
