The gallery will be open from 4pm-6pm this week—Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday—for viewings of our current exhibition, Daisy Walls, by Walker Walls Tarver. See below for Tarver’s artist statement titled “ON FLOOR FLAKE PAINTINGS” "This is a hyper-realistic paintings of the speckles in concrete and the incessant motion of the electrons trapped between my socks and shoes; this is a painting of the melanin in my sisters’ cells and in my own; it is an image of the night sky but only a view that is more accurate than any high-powered telescope here on earth can provide. This painting is of oil and blood stains, it is a rorschach test of the diy space floor. This painting is a very, very precise birds-eye view of the street square where every version of myself, fractured through lens and wires, gathers and huddles together for warmth. This is a perfect painting of the dust particles that the neighborhood cat (one of many) kicks up in the backyard on Jefferson, and it’s the most accurate rendition of the fuzzy shapes I see when I close my eyes. This is a painting of my entire family tree, the last 300,000 years of it at least. And perhaps it is also the next 300,000." taken in Harlingen, Texas by @nftg0ddess

Castro Gallery is proud to present Daisy Walls, a new site-specific installation by artist Walker Walls Tarver @nftg0ddess , with an opening reception for the artist on Friday, April 24th, from 6pm-9pm. In addition to the installation, which will include paintings that mimic the gallery’s architecture, Daisy Walls will also feature a series of recent work that continue the artists practice of oscillating between an appreciation for and demystification of the acts of both abstraction and figuration. Walker Walls Tarver (b. 1995, Palo Alto, CA) received her MFA in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2023, where she was a Gilbert Fellow, and a BA from Colorado College in 2018. Tarver currently resides in Brownsville, TX, and teaches painting at the Univeristy of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Her work has been exhibited widely at spaces including Deiner Gallery in Arlingoton, MA; april april in Brooklyn, NY; and Wasserman Projects in Detroit, MI.  Daisy Walls will be on view at Castro Gallery through Friday, May 22nd. taken in Harlingen, Texas by @nftg0ddess
