Magic moments on the Ningaloo. ~45 mins of patiently waiting before they made their dash to the ocean.

One of the many highlights of my time in Exmouth was working as a volunteer turtle monitor for Parks and Wildlife this nesting season.

The last time I ran was a local race in June. I won (which is only important because whilst a grassroots local race, I’ve only ever been ‘the bridesmaid’ 🥈), and had fun doing so. A few days later, I had an appointment with a podiatric surgeon who confirmed I needed to get surgery for a Tailors Bunionette, something that has been causing me pain in my right foot since ~2023. I love running, and having to have surgery number 3 on my feet (2x Haglunds 2020/21) is frustrating, however worth it as I’ve a ton of goals, including returning to racing the 100 mile distance.

Contrastingly, my curiosity in 2019 about freediving had me recently complete my Masters course and dive to 34m comfortably. Being in a world class environment like @camotesfreediving, surrounded by national record holders and talented people exploring their curiosity and limits on a single breath, has been so fulfilling. Freediving is so similar to trail & ultra running, and something I’m literally diving deeper into.

So, whilst pending surgery and running will be a challenge, I’m grateful that free diving is taking me deeper into my love for the ocean, introducing me to a phenomenal community, and teaching me lessons I’d never get sitting in comfort.

And putting it out there, I want to dive to 42m and run 42km in the same day 🎯 to blend my two loves. by @nic_errol

Leaving the Phillipines with my Molchanovs Wave 3 complete! It’s been a brilliant 9 days training at @camotesfreediving, under the excellent technical guidance of Chris.

Camotes has a world class setup, phenomenal instructors and a friendly, welcoming community of rotating students.

It’s been so illuminating chatting with and hanging out with national records holders and people diving double my current PB. I’ve had so much fun during this course & came away with a slew of PBs for every discipline. Honestly, it’s the most fun I’ve had training even with a slight ear issue to troubleshoot. It’s hard to beat a PB dive that feels smooth and easy.

The journey continues, as I work on diving with a nose clip, chasing depths that seemed so unattainable a year ago, and my big goal of being a safety diver at a competition.

Thank you @thibault_guignes for creating such a dynamic and supportive training space.

Been a great week & change Freediving & celebrating my birthday. Thanks to everyone who helped me celebrate above and under the water.

It’s been a long time since I’ve actually had a break between work, so nice to soak up the season change of autumn back in Perth at a slower pace. taken in Perth, Western Australia by @nic_errol

Getting acquainted with the Freediving scene in Perth

Exploring the Lena wreck in Bunbury. Worth the 5am wake up & 2 hour drive.

Went to Coral Bay to spend some time with the mantas. Just became one of my fav animals, so cool to finally tick them off my list up here. Seen almost all the rays except the manta, so 2026 is off to a great start.

Fluted giant clam was cool AF too.

Looking back, it’s probably been one of the greatest. Not without challenges, in a world full of instability and division, there has been a tremendous amount of great.

Less running (deliberately), although still jumped in to pace again at Western States and plenty of races with Pip. Lots of freediving in a year I really became immersed and obsessed with the discipline. I freedived past 20m at Lord Howe, explored the kelp forests in Cape Town & then hit 25m in my current training ground in Ningaloo. I swam with whale sharks, turtles, dolphins, all kinds of sharks and rays, sea snakes, humpback whales and much more.

I tracked my favourite animal (cheetah) on foot and had some stunning intimate experiences. Plus tracked lion, black rhino and more on foot, and a boat load of turtles as part of my volunteering at Ningaloo.

2 big international trips (California & S Africa), plus a return to Lord Howe. A unexpected job opportunity in Exmouth which brought me to all the magic of the Ningaloo Reef and continued freediving education.

With 4 months left in Exmouth, lots of unknowns for 2026, which is both editing and scary. No trips booked (yet) & assessing a range of things in my personal life.

Thanks to all the friendships, running partners, Freedive friends, safeties and teachers. All the people I met travelling. All those that said yes to adventure. And the family, both chosen and blood.

A total glamour morning out with @saltyheartsclub crew in the Gulf. Stunning conditions & a ton of stole on the line just training and playing.

CWTB has gotten so much better, slower & smoother being the key.

Thanks @kyraandrijich for bringing us all together, and thanks to Cam & @brinkleydavies for being great fun as safeties & content team 🤿 taken in Exmouth, Western Australia by @nic_errol

Back to back days freediving on the Gulf. Max depth ~20m, so was all about reps & refining technique. First day was smashing, and everything felt easy, one of those magic days out ✨

Day two wasn’t as smooth. I hit the same depths and did more dives, it just felt a bit harder. Like much in life, progress is never linear. Always great to experience those not as good days, and practice problem solving & sitting with the discomfort. It does make those magic days that much better, and a reminder about how wonderful the human body is.

Big love to Kyra @saltyheartsclub for being such a wonderful instructor in this season of my life. No matter how the dives feel, there is always laughter and joy on the line.
