So about a year ago I made a joke that I could play the piano. It was a joke because I really didn’t know a lot to begin with, it had easily been 15 years since I had done anything with piano, it had been 20 or 25 years since I’d had actual lessons from my mom, and last time I had played something it probably took me weeks to sort out a single song.

But @zechariah_denetz and @chantel_s asked if I wanted to join in with the music for that year’s Easter service at @cityhousechurch. I told them I had no idea what I was doing, but they encouraged me to practice each Sunday’s songs with them to see how it all went.

There was a lot for me to learn, but somehow playing music came easier than it had in high school (shout out to @karinesideras for teaching me proper technique!). They worked with me to get ready for Easter ... and even though I had the worst case of nerves the Sunday before when we all played together in service for the first time, by the time we made it to the holiday I was actually ready to play in front of a room packed with people.

In the time since I’ve had the privilege of playing piano most Sunday mornings. I’ve learned so much more about music and worship, and it’s wild to me that it’s been (more than!) a year since last Easter. As we practiced tonight for this year’s Easter, the anniversary reminds me how grateful I am for friends and family that encourage me to work and grow in these skills.

This Easter we’ll be out at the Marcus Center, just like most other Sundays. Stop on over if you’re looking for a place to celebrate the holiday and resurrection of our savior! by @nicholas.sideras

He’s been asking me for the longest time when he could ride his own bike to school, but I have to regularly tell him it isn’t safe. There are plastic delineators on the bike lane but to be honest I don’t think those are enough to remind him to stay out of traffic when he’s excited and having fun. @milwaukeedpw recently added concrete jersey barriers along part of our route to school which was really appreciated but still not quite enough for me to think it was safe for a first grader.

But the snow banks…. Those run along the entire bike lane and make a fantastic barrier! So I’ve been keeping an eye on conditions and the plowing, and finally today everything came together just right for him to get his wish of riding to school! by @nicholas.sideras

This week I had another fantastic couple of days at @vargallery working on more neon sign making under @stephanie_sara_lif ’s expert and patient instruction. This time around I had the idea of making the word “home” for a shelf my parents designed out of extra wood from the construction of their neighborhood in Indiana. It was a fun challenge working on all of the bends for serifed letters and a (mostly) round letter O - it’s not all perfect but I’m really excited by the end result.

I was able to finish this up just in time for my parents’ arrival up here for a few days, which meant they got to be the first people to see this put together. They also reminded me that this week is the 12th anniversary of them selling their house up here before moving out of state, which is a wild reminder of the time passing by.

I’m the last one of my immediate family still in Wisconsin these days so this will be a special addition to my dining room as a reminder of the people who are my home even if they aren’t close by. (It’s also a special reminder of @philip.sideras who left this shelf behind when he and Anne bought their own house recently. Thanks, I owe ya!)

Next up? No idea… but I am curious if the city allows individual homes to have bright neon signs like an old-fashioned diner… by @nicholas.sideras

October was a weird but good month, full of friends, neighborhood events, biking, baseball… a random trip to DC, two work project launches, redoing a lot of things inside and outside the house, a location move at church, tons of arts and crafts and music, and who even remembers what else! by @nicholas.sideras

The World Champion Milwaukee @brewers have made a final addition to the 2026 Baseball Graveyard 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 by @nicholas.sideras

At home with the kid in bed, listening to the fireworks and church bells and cheering and sirens for the @brewers and everything and it’s happening!

another amazing time with friends and neighbors at the @whna_mke spooktacular! by @nicholas.sideras

I’m beginning to understand why the @brewers racing sausages trip all the time by @nicholas.sideras

The @brewers always have room for one more team in the graveyard of the 2026 season!

The @whna_mke Spooktacular calls for going all out on decorations when your section of the neighborhood is up. That’s us this year, so I made tombstones for each of the National League baseball teams that the Brewers have won the pennant over this year. (And tomorrow night I might add a projector screen for when the game’s on?)

We have one blue tombstone left, perfect for the letters “TB”…. 🪦 by @nicholas.sideras
