Last week, I had the honour of being one of the inaugural inductees into the Movember Hall of Fame.

As proud as I am of everything we’ve done together for Movember so far, I’m not sure I really felt all that worthy of it - particularly when you’re amongst some incredible people doing such incredible work - but as it has started to sink in, I have felt a massive sense of pride to be a part of something good and so much bigger than all of us.

I have taken part in Movember for over 15 years now, but it wasn’t until my brother Matt passed away 10 years ago that it really started to mean something more to me. Now, I’m so proud to know that photos of Matt, William and I will adorn the walls of Movember HQ for many years to come, alongside so many other Mo legends and their “why”s.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, supported, shared, listened, talked, connected, encouraged, joined or even just put up with me and my mission over the past few years - it means more to me than any award or recognition ever could, and I truly appreciate it and you all.

Men are still dying too young and masculinity and mental health are still massive issues in our society, but it’s rooms of people like this that give me faith that we’re doing something right. 💙

Happy birthday Matt. He would have been 36 today, and will always be a massive part of who I am and my why, so with another @movember just around the corner, I wanted to share this today. Let’s make things better - for your brothers, your fathers, your sons, your partners, your mates. Thanks for being a part of the journey gang. Love you lots. 💙👨🏻✌️ by @nicholasj55

So it’s now December 1st and that’s another @movember in the bank for me. 2024 was my 14th year and I’m incredibly proud to say that together we’ve raised over $45k for this wonderful charity (and over $127k with my crew at work in the @rea_group team since 2017), which blows my tiny little mind. 🤯

For me, this is so much more than just the valuable money raised, but it’s a platform that allows me to keep fronting up and sharing my story with you all. As many of you know, I lost my brother Matt to suicide 8 years ago and whilst my family and I miss him every day, he has helped me to become a better man and put myself out there (with or without a terrible moustache) to have better conversations with those around me - to help them, and help me. Life is better shared team, and it’s a bloody privilege to share it with you all. A massive thank you to so so many of you for supporting me every year and every day - I’m incredibly grateful and feeling the love. So again, thank you gang. I love ya 🥰💙😘

(PS: If you thought you missed it, there’s still time to donate and you can find the link in my bio!). 🙏 by @nicholasj55

A few weeks back now I stepped into the ring, got well outside my comfort zone and threw some hands having a crack in @tributeboxing’s Fight Night. The result wasn’t the one I was hoping for, but sometimes that happens in life. I’m still bloody proud to look back on these snaps and reflect on the amazing experience it was, but also, it’s nice to have a reminder on the grid of how tough I looked. 😤

A huge thank you to all the crew at Tribute for pushing me in this journey and giving me a chance at ticking this off the bucket list, and especially to the phenomenal coaches that I’ve had the real pleasure of working with - @diellonlihari, @mr_mat_rad and @jacoblinnett in this camp, but also @tailoredtoperform, @jaymilf, @puttspt, and even back with @coach_mikey.jenner in the day - for their incredible generosity of guidance, time and knowledge. Also to my gang in Team Black - what a crew! So good to train with and get to know you all over the journey. We were unlucky on the night, but I loved all those training sessions together, with blood, sweat and not too many tears! Big love. 🖤

Last but not least, thanks to everyone who came out to support on the night, tuned in online, sent through best wishes or has even been following along at home. I love and appreciate you all. You can’t keep a good man down, so I’ll be back. 👊

MELBOURNE MARATHON 2021

Well, that’s one I won’t forget for a while! A huge day, after weeks of prep, I thought I was ready to give this marathon thing another crack, but things don’t always go according to plan. Felt good until 30km and then started to cramp in both calves, but was able to push through. However, the heat really started to get to me, and as my heart rate rose past 200, I wasn’t able to get my breathing under control and collapsed somewhere after 40km (Strava was running a bit behind, as usual).

I was put in an ambulance and sent to emergency at St Vincents, and I have to say that everyone from the ambos to the doctors and nurses at the hospital were simply amazing. I am so grateful for them and everyone else that came to my aid in that moment. The docs told me that my body just shut down from stress to help protect my vital organs, which is pretty incredible really. I got out last night and was able to sleep in my own bed, after giving everyone a fair old scare.

To my man @andrewdamianou9, I’m so honoured to have shared this experience with you, brother. To have trained with you for weeks, and even going back to last year, having played even the smallest role in your success makes me immensely proud. Your training and efforts have been nothing short of incredible and you sacrificing your own run to try and get us across the line together yesterday is something I’ll never forget. Thank you mate.

Whilst it’s quite bittersweet to get so close and a little embarrassing to not finish, it’s also a nice reminder that marathons aren’t meant to be easy, and I’m also strangely proud that my body gave up before I did. Although I reckon that might be me done with running for a little bit… by @nicholasj55

HOME.
With so much going on in all of our tiny, busy lives, as well as right across the world at present, I’ve been trying really hard to practice gratitude each day, and I tell you what, I have so much to be grateful for.

This weekend has been a wonderful reminder of how lucky I am to live in this beautiful home, with my favourite person and our favourite little feline, in such a safe and wealthy country. I get to work from home for a company that I’m proud of, in a job that allows me to buy the things I need, and I have built a life full of beautiful, generous and inspiring individuals that I am so happy and blessed to count as friends and family. And then there’s the small stuff I get to enjoy every day like good coffee and good food, and beers and bands and football and running and fresh air and stupid memes that make me laugh more than I should and how good AirPods are and Brooklyn 99 and having fresh flowers and greenery around the house and a big comfy bed and singing along to 90s pop and so so so much more…

I hope that everyone reading this can find a little gratitude in both the big and small things in their life, because perspective is everything and it really makes a difference. Love youze. 😘😘 by @nicholasj55
