I really, really love watches.

A century ago this year, Hans Wilsdorf patented the Oyster case as the first reliably water-resistant watch case, and arguably the innovation that convinced the world @rolex was both durable and dependable – an impression that gets stronger with every year.

To mark 100 years since it was first announced, the Crown has turned the simplest watch in its catalogue into a riot of colour with the Oyster Perpetual 36 “Jubilee Dial,” ref. 126000, which spells out R-O-L-E-X in ten different bright tones across the dial. Beyond the dial, it’s a pure OP, arriving with a 36mm Oystersteel case, Twinlock crown for 100m of water resistance, and an Oyster bracelet.

@nick.kenyon did a deep dive into its history as one of the three cover stars of Hodinkee Australia & New Zealand Vol. 1, which you can now find on hodinkee.com.au.

@rzewatches has pulled the covers off its first-ever retailer collaboration, teaming up with Melbourne’s @watchpoint.au on a tough-as-nails digital tool watch with just the right amount of Aussie charm. Its grade 2 titanium case is treated with RZE’s UltraHex coating – ten times harder than regular titanium – allowing it to tip the scales at a featherweight 52g (without the strap). The Australian touches are kept subtle, with a light green ring framing the dial, and a flash of warm colour from the golden anodised ring sandwiched beneath the bezel. No apps, no accounts, no Bluetooth – just a clean, no-fuss digital daily wearer with a perpetual calendar, chronograph, alarm, and a backlight. It arrives limited to 50 pieces and priced at A$450. @nick.kenyon has more on hodinkee.com.au. by @nick.kenyon

There was some seriously good watch-spotting at the launch of @ebayau Live this week. From gem-set Rolex sports watches to a crispy vintage Universal Geneve, there was something for everyone.

A Rolex GMT Master-II ref. 116759SA in white gold, with a sapphire and diamond set bezel and diamond lugs.

Not something you see everyday.

Hodinkee contributor @bornabosnjak was wearing his 36mm Universal Geneve Tri Compax ref. 222100 with a triple calendar, moonphase, and chronograph. One of the finest references the brand released in the 1960s.

A classic IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 ref. IW328904 in titanium.

A remarkable off-catalogue Rolex Day-Date 36mm ref. 118235F-0113, in rose gold with an engraved pink mother-of-pearl and diamond dial.

One of the unsung heroes of the modern Rolex calendar - the Yacht-Master ref. 268622, in 37mm of platinum and stainless steel with a rhodium dial. by @nick.kenyon

It’s been a freaky year for @ulyssenardin as the brand celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Freak collection and its 180th anniversary more broadly. Continuing a bumper year of new releases, now sees two new editions to the Freak One range, which slightly de-prioritise ultimate legibility in favour of celebrating traditional métiers d’art. As their names imply, the Freak One Blue Enamel and Freak One Guilloché feature dials exhibiting their namesake textures: they’re also the first Freak Ones cased in titanium. @jamieweiss has more at hodinkee.com.au

Fifty years on from Gerald Genta’s Ingenieur, @iwcwatches is marking the occasion about as quietly as anyone could. The anniversary editions arrive with a pair of 40mm and 35mm steel references, featuring a brushed silver-plated dial inspired by a rare variant of the 1976 Ingenieur SL ref. 1832. Subtlety is the name of the game for these editions, and the only other hint of its half-century-celebration status is the printed signature carrying a discreet “50” exactly where the letters SL once sat. Stripping back the usual grid-pattern dial has another unexpected benefit, allowing the eye to focus more on the case and bracelet finishing instead. Both are limited to 1,150 pieces, with the 40 running IWC’s in-house calibre and 120 hours of reserve. @mrshepherdson has the full story on hodinkee.com.au now. by @nick.kenyon

Being our first issue, we themed Volume 1 around firsts, and once you start turning the pages, you’ll find them everywhere. There’s Reuben Schoots, the first Australian to build a watch by the George Daniels method, working alone out of a Canberra garage; Mark Webber, still the only Australian to win an F1 Grand Prix and a FIA WEC title; and Sam Kerr, the only footballer to have won Golden Boots in three different leagues on three different continents. The watches are also on theme, from 100 years of the Rolex Oyster to Vacheron Constantin’s first non-limited titanium tool watch. Three covers, 23 stories, 156 pages, and now, the magazine is officially on newsstands around the country. Find out more on hodinkee.com.au. by @nick.kenyon

WHAT’S ON THE WRIST? @nick.kenyon shares his thoughts on the latest generation of @longines HydroConquest, which has undergone its most thorough rework to date. Beyond the addition of a new 39mm size, we’ve also got dial choices that run from black and blue lacquer to green and a rather attractive frosted blue sunray, a reworked steel bracelet with a double-security folding clasp and micro-adjustment, and a very healthy 72 hours of power reserve. Let us know in the comments below what you think about this latest line-up of divers from Longines. by @nick.kenyon

Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix on October 11, @iwcwatches has pulled the covers off its latest Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 – executed in some of the boldest colours of its partnership with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS yet. An undeniably eye catching sunburst purple dial is contrasted by PETRONAS green across the markers, numerals and lume, with the same teal used for the framed day-date display. Cased in 41mm of grade 5 titanium and running the in-house calibre 69385 with a column wheel and 46 hours of reserve, it comes on a matching purple rubber strap with EasX-CHANGE. In a rare move by IWC, the watch will remain a part of the brand’s permanent-collection, rather than a limited edition. by @nick.kenyon

I couldn’t resist resharing this glorious clip that @thorsvaboe took of the @berneron Mirage Mirror 38 in yellow gold. Genuinely one of the most beautiful watches I’ve seen in years. by @nick.kenyon

Very cool to spot an @iwcwatches Pilot’s Watch Automatic RAAF on the wrist of @henryhblack recently, which was produced for current and former members of the Royal Australian Air Force. Cased in 41mm of black ceramic and powered by the 32111 caliber with a 120-hour power reserve, it was produced in 2023 and pays homage to the original IWC Mark 11 watches issued to the RAAF in the late ‘50s. It’s understood that less than 100 pieces have been made. by @nick.kenyon
