I really, really love watches.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@nick.kenyon was recently lucky enough to go hands-on with the “Cherry Blossom” Senator – the latest collaboration between @glashuetteoriginal and porcelain specialist @meissen_porcelain. Cased in 40mm of red-gold, the dial is fired multiple times at 900° Celsius, with layers of hand-applied paint added between firings to create the maximum depth and intensity of the cherry blossom’s colours. A true work of art on the wrist.

Black lacquer for after dark, a pale coastal dial for the morning after.

Underneath, they’re the same watch - a Swiss automatic wound by the wrist, a bezel that keeps a second time zone, and a crown sealed around a few grains of Australian sand.

Wear it on steel, or swap to rubber or leather and it comes down to just 100 grams.

Serious watches, made for the days that don’t go to plan.

The Elemental in City Lights and Long Weekend.

Order window opens Thursday, 7am AEDT.

Three experts, three favourite releases of 2026 at the AFR Watch Panel 👀
⁣
▪️ Our very own Shaun Anthony picks the Vacheron Constantin Overseas in 39.5mm platinum, with that salmon dial. A serious piece, and one we’d happily see land on the desk.
⁣
▪️ @itselevenxi with the Bulgari Octo Finissimo 37mm in gold

▪️@nick.kenyon with the Chopard Quattro Spirit 25 with its straw marquetry dial

The Elemental in City Lights and Long Weekend are available for order from 15th October to 30th October.

Made to order only. This is the final run for both, with no plans to make them again.

One for the nights that run late, one for the weekends you don’t want to end.

City Lights wears a black lacquer dial made for the city after dark, while Long Weekend’s pale dial takes its colour from the beach at first light.

Both are built on a 40mm case with a Swiss automatic movement and 200m water resistance - and hidden in the crown, real Australian sand to keep the coast close wherever the day takes you.

See you soon.

A century ago this year, Hans Wilsdorf patented the Oyster case as the first reliably water-resistant watch case, and arguably the innovation that convinced the world @rolex was both durable and dependable – an impression that gets stronger with every year.

To mark 100 years since it was first announced, the Crown has turned the simplest watch in its catalogue into a riot of colour with the Oyster Perpetual 36 “Jubilee Dial,” ref. 126000, which spells out R-O-L-E-X in ten different bright tones across the dial. Beyond the dial, it’s a pure OP, arriving with a 36mm Oystersteel case, Twinlock crown for 100m of water resistance, and an Oyster bracelet.

@nick.kenyon did a deep dive into its history as one of the three cover stars of Hodinkee Australia & New Zealand Vol. 1, which you can now find on hodinkee.com.au.

@rzewatches has pulled the covers off its first-ever retailer collaboration, teaming up with Melbourne’s @watchpoint.au on a tough-as-nails digital tool watch with just the right amount of Aussie charm. Its grade 2 titanium case is treated with RZE’s UltraHex coating – ten times harder than regular titanium – allowing it to tip the scales at a featherweight 52g (without the strap). The Australian touches are kept subtle, with a light green ring framing the dial, and a flash of warm colour from the golden anodised ring sandwiched beneath the bezel. No apps, no accounts, no Bluetooth – just a clean, no-fuss digital daily wearer with a perpetual calendar, chronograph, alarm, and a backlight. It arrives limited to 50 pieces and priced at A$450. @nick.kenyon has more on hodinkee.com.au.

@panerai has done what enthusiasts have been asking for, shrinking the Luminor to a more wearable 42mm and, notably, dropping the price with it. Honouring the pre-Vendôme references that were revived in 1993 by Panerai executives aboard an Italian destroyer, the trio arrives with matte black or green dials cased in polished steel, or a matte blue dial housed in a black DLC case, all glowing with vintage-toned beige lume on fabric straps. The three new references are powered by the slimmer automatic P.980 with 72 hours of reserve, and perhaps most importantly of all, they promise no less than 500m of water resistance.
