Looking back on the festival Weit! in Weingarten, wonderfully curated by @leic.aman and meticulously run by his team. Conducting pieces by @paredes_hilda and having the opportunity to work closely with her was a real highlight of my autumn. @ensembleaventure

My heart is still so full after a wonderful @stadtkapellelahr.e.v Gala concert with @cornelia.lanz and @tenorino_con_grandezza who sang with such vibrancy and rich colour. My deepest respect however is reserved for the wonderful musicians of the orchestra who - with minimum rehearsal time - went hand in hand with me through every subtle nuance of tempo and expression. We have known each other so long, but you keep growing in sensitivity. Thankyou! ❤️🎶💐

The bell pattern I posted in my last reel can be experienced in more than one physical way, innately connected with how we move our bodies whilst performing it.

Here I place it in the structure of both a binary and ternary metric structure. I perceive the binary version to be ‚angular‘ whilst the ternary perspective feels much more rounded.

The pattern however, stays the same - only our perception and relationship to it changes. A reason why I find polyrhythmical explorations to be endlessly fascinating.

NB: It is of importance for me, not to purport to be engaging authentically with a way of making music whose regional and/or cultural significance is not necessarily part of my own biography.

I enjoy engaging with rhythmic musical practices of which I have become aware of through reading, researching and more importantly, dialogue with fellow students and artists.

In this case, I am inspired by a bell pattern I believe often to be present in particular musical and dance practices performed by amongst others, the Ewe people of Togo, Ghana and Benin.

Some fun singing, playing and movement coordination challenges with pedagogy students @zhdk_max today!

I couldn’t find a reliable source for the song, actually a lullaby. Some note it as coming from Chad or the Congo.

Mark Camphouses towering musical tribute to Rosa Parks and the North American Civil Rights Movement, A Movement for Rosa forms the centrepiece for this years @stadtkapellelahr.e.v Gala Concert Programme. An especially proud moment for me, being my first Gala Concert since being given the honorary title of Music Director of the orchestra last year.

40 years of Ensemble Aventure 🎂

📅 7 October 2026 · 20:00
Elisabeth-Schneider-Stiftung · Freiburg

Forty years is a long time for an ensemble devoted to contemporary music. But for our 40th anniversary, we decided not to make a retrospective. Instead, we want to ask a different question: what comes next? What does an ensemble carry with it after four decades? What remains, what changes, and what can still be invented?

Rather than looking back at a finished history, we wanted to celebrate the possibility of continuing to make things happen together, and without knowing exactly where they will lead. For this anniversary concert we decided to bring together works by Carola Bauckholt, Erin Gee, Mikel Iturregi, Pauline Oliveros, Rebecca Saunders, Ali Latif Shushtari and Thierry Tidrow.

Alongside the concert, an exhibition will gather fragments from Ensemble Aventure’s history: photographs, posters, recordings, documents and other traces of the people and projects that have shaped the ensemble over the past 40 years.

With the friendly support of the City of Freiburg and in cooperation with SWR Kultur.

🎟 Tickets: €20 / €15 (Freundesverein) / free for students & Freiburg-Pass holders.

Last week I had the privilege of leading the most beautiful workshop together with my friend and colleague @mtthsdrll

We spent three intensive days together with residents of @augustinum_seniorenresidenzen in Freiburg, as well as a number of other amateur musicians of many different ages and with many different stories to tell.

We prepared four contrasting percussion portraits which we presented at @mehrklangfreiburg Klangparcours @waldseefreiburg in the most beautiful weather.

1. Wind in den Bäumen 🌳🌲
2. Carillon ✨🌌
3. Music for Pieces of Waldsee-Wood 🪵🪾
4. Rhythms for the Royal Fireworks 🎆🎇

One of the participating residents was over 90 and making music of this nature for the first time. It was a beautiful week of shared experiences, musical and otherwise.
