Last night several hundred people including, stars, circus folk, young people, employees, staff, friends , Board members, knights and dames, Peers of the Realm and, very quietly in a sign of the significance of the occasion, the Prime Minister, gathered to celebrate and say goodbye to a giant in our world and a fabulous human being, Marcus Davey, the Director and CEO of the Roundhouse, stepping down after 27 years. There was circus, singing , dance, poetry , magnificent speeches and in perhaps the most moving part of the evening, a wonderful poem written and read by one of the poets whose life was transformed by Marcus and the Roundhouse. As she read to him, struggling not to cry, images of some of the young people he had helped appeared on a screen behind her. I’m afraid I wept. Bravo Marcus Old friend, the 22 plus years I spent with you working @theroundhouse were some of the best of my very varied working life. by @nickallott25
