BIG NEWS: I can’t believe I’m finally saying this 🤪 📖 🥳 🙏🏼

AVAILABLE NOW - 4 days early access before official release.

Link in bio - My large (huge) format coffee table book launches on 25th Feb.

This book took me 6 years to make.

This is an intentionally small, special first edition, all of which are signed. I only have 1000 books. If you want one please order before Wednesday so you don’t miss out. Thanks to all those who’ve patiently waited (years).

—

About the book:

I spent time between running challenges sifting through nearly half a million photos, slowly narrowing them down to the images that meant the most. The result is a book I’m immensely proud of. It’s a beautiful large-format book: Nearly 500 pages, weighing more than 3 kilos per book, it’s filled with images, anecdotes, and stories from every corner of the planet.

This book has been a labour of love for me. Every word, photo, and even the design and layout of the book has been put together by me.

—

📅 Official Release: 25 February
🔓 Early Access: Available now before official release
📚 First Print Run: Strictly limited to 1,000 copies
✍️ Every copy personally signed

—

The story behind the book.

On January 6th, 2018 I set off on a journey to do something no one had ever done before: to run a marathon in every country on the planet.

What followed was 674 days on the road. 3 new marathons in 3 new countries every single week for nearly one 100 weeks. This was a journey of logistics, fatigue, endurance and curiosity.

Naturally, I carried a camera. Skylines of epic cities and mountain ranges, communities, smiling faces, and endless pockets of cultures, religions, and ways of life around the world. From tropical islands, epic views, back streets, market places and the simple realities of how others live.

This journey changed my life.

Having achieved this mission, I wrote Running The World, This was my written account of the adventure, published by Penguin, which quickly became a bestseller.

This is the visual companion. 3 kilos per book, it’s a hefty quality beautiful book. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello 👋 I’m Nick Butter.

This is me:

I’ve run a marathon in every country in the world, I’ve run over 1,000 marathons, I have 11 world records, my all time mileage count is tantalisingly close to the magical 100,000 miles, and I’ve worn through more pairs of shoes than I can count - thanks @brooksrunninguk - BUT THE REAL STORY isn’t about the numbers, it’s about the people, the places, and the purpose behind every step. Running has changed my life, and now is my life. I believe in being aware of our privileges, and using of fortunes of opportunity wisely and with goodness.

I run for joy. I run to explore. I run to raise money and awareness for causes that matter. I run because it makes me feel alive.

Over the years, running has taken me across deserts, through jungles, up volcanoes, and deep into the heart of remote communities. I’ve run in war zones, on paradise islands, on ice, sand, tarmac and trail. And through it all, I’ve learned more about the world — and myself — than I ever imagined possible.

I’m lucky enough to call this my job: running, speaking at events, schools and various wonderful companies around the world, writing books, articles and poetry, and of course using movement as a force for connection and change. Whether I’m hosting my running retreats with @runweekends , writing books with my publisher @penguinrandomhouse , or just heading out for my daily sunrise run club care of @sprintcrowd , I believe in the power of showing up, one foot in front of the other. I hope to leave this world better than I found it. Running is my pathway to do so.

If you’re new here, welcome. If you’ve been here for the journey, thank you for the ongoing followership, connection and support.. There’s a lot more to come.

In the next 24 months, I have 3 personal ‘projects’ (crazy running challenges), I’m hosting another 45 running retreat holidays, I have a new book on the way, and I’m deep in the depths of plotting my biggest ever running world record attempt.

If you want to know more about me, check out my substack (I post weekly) or my personal website. www.nickbutter.com - If you fancy coming along on retreat head to www.runweekends.com @runweekends

From the GREAT NORTH to the GREAT SOUTH
@great_run @brooksrunninguk

What a day running the Great North Run with Brooks… not long now till the Great South. If you’re there, comment and I’ll see you there.

A big shout out to all the Brooks crew, the team at Great Run, the legend Joe Wicks @thebodycoach for pushing hard in the last 2 miles, to the prime minister who I bizarrely had some lunch with, plus plenty of chats. And to the greats of TV and charity. A pleasure. Many of you I’ve met and run with over the years.

A very special mention to my friend Kelly. Kelly Holmes was an idol of mine growing up and now we share the same speaking circuit and often end up at the same events throughout the year. @damekellyholmes

In terms of the gear I ran in the Hyperion Max from Brooks. You know I have worn Brooks for years, but this time… wow… I’ve now swapped my shoe from the Adrenaline to the Hyperion. What a shoe.

To Clayton, Cassie and Jake, the elite field, you were true gents.

Finally Brooks team, you feel like family now! Thanks for being so welcoming.

See you all at the Great South… VERY SOON!

Will you be there?

Run well!

Currently on a very big boat.

Amongst the chaos of my wonderful life, for the next 2 weeks I have a rather different experience. A speaking gig on a cruise ship. Telling my tales of adventure over the years. Every other day we stop off somewhere in the Med.

Currently running about 220km a week (beginning to train for another adventure soon shh 🤫 - ill announce this soon) and so, although I’m not a dreadmill fan, sorry I mean treadmill, many a mile has and will be with the view of the ocean on the 9th floor looking at the endless silky blue passing underneath me.

Here’s a few snaps of the first couple of days.

It’s remarkable how easy it is to miss the things that matter most.

Life has a way of drawing us in. Of convincing us that happiness lies somewhere ahead, that success is something to chase, that fulfilment is something to earn.

We become so occupied with building a life that we sometimes forget to live one.

We mistake attention for connection. Possessions for happiness. Busyness for purpose. We count our achievements, measure our progress and compare our lives, all while the simplest pleasures quietly pass us by.

A walk without a purpose. A conversation without a distraction. Laughter that leaves your face sore. The company of someone who asks for nothing but your time.

These are not the interruptions to life. These are life itself.

And yet, how easily we overlook them.

The world will always give us something more to want, something else to worry about, another reason to hurry.

But we don’t have to follow.

Be kind. Be present. Seek adventure. Choose people over possessions, memories over money, and freedom over the endless pursuit of more.

Life is extraordinarily short, and far too precious to spend imprisoned by the very things we think will make it worthwhile.

Be free from its grip.

You might just discover that everything you were searching for was already there.

To the laughs, the miles, the mountains, the views, the early starts and the very late finishes. To the tired legs, questionable weather, ridiculous conversations, shared snacks, pints, pastries, airports, and those moments when someone stops, looks around and says, “This is bloody brilliant, we are so lucky.”

@runweekends JOIN ME!!! (link in bio)

To the people who arrived as strangers and left as friends. To the person who thought they’d be the slowest, the person who hadn’t run that far before, and the person who came alone wondering whether they’d fit in.

To everyone who waited at the top of a hill, doubled back, carried a bag, shared some food, made somebody laugh or simply said, “You’ve got this.”

Thank you. It’s been a mad, busy, beautiful summer. ❤️ 🏃‍♀️ 🗺️

We’ve covered a lot of miles, but I’m increasingly convinced the miles are the least important part. Run Weekends has always been about using running as an excuse to go somewhere, see something and meet people you probably would never have met otherwise.

It’s about eating together, running together, laughing together, struggling a little together and standing somewhere beautiful together.

Running strips away the usual nonsense. Nobody cares what you do for work when you’re halfway up a mountain in the rain. Nobody cares about your pace when you’re around a table at the end of the day laughing about something that happened six hours earlier.

So thank you to everyone who joined us this summer, and to our team, guides, sponsors, partners, locals, friends and family who make it possible. 🙏🏼

Move your body. Go somewhere new. Eat good food. Laugh a lot. Talk to strangers. Stay outside a little longer. Don’t worry too much about how fast you get there.

Special thanks to:
@brooksrunninguk
@truetravellerinsurance
@st_austell_brewery

Here’s to the miles, but mostly, here’s to the people. ❤️

Better get on with the rest of the year now.

I’M CHANGING SHOES.

After years and thousands of miles in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS, I’ve decided it’s time for something different.

They’ve been around the world with me, through training blocks, adventures, races and a frankly ridiculous number of miles.

But it’s time. I’m leaving Brooks…For… well, a different Brooks shoe. 😂

Rather than relying on one shoe for almost everything, I’m changing things up and choosing two: one for the road and one for the trails. Yes I know that’s normal, but honestly the Adrenaline’s were perfect for both 80% of the time… now a change.

🏃 ROAD: GHOST AMP

This is my new road shoe.

It feels lighter, faster and more responsive than what I’ve been used to, while still having enough cushioning and comfort to pile the everyday miles into.

There’s a noticeable bit of pop when you push the pace, but it doesn’t feel like an aggressive race shoe. It sits nicely in that middle ground where I can head out for an easy run, a long run or something considerably quicker without thinking too much about it.

Basically: comfortable, quick and fun.

⛰️ TRAIL: CASCADIA ELITE

Now this thing… I really love this shoe.

I’ve worn a lot of trail shoes over the years, but this immediately felt different.

It’s incredibly light and springy underfoot, but somehow still feels solid and reassuring when the terrain gets rough. Loads of cushioning, loads of grip and it feels genuinely FAST.

Underneath there’s DNA GOLD cushioning, a carbon-infused propulsion plate and Vibram Megagrip, essentially lots of clever stuff designed to help you move quickly over proper trail terrain.

So, after all these years, I’m officially changing my shoes.

Sorry, Adrenaline. We had a good run.

Road: Ghost Amp.
Trail: Cascadia Elite.

My new two-shoe setup.

And I reckon it might be sticking around for a while. 👌

If you haven’t tried either of these I’d give them a go.

IF YOU TRAVEL A LOT, READ THIS 🌍

If you like adventure, travel regularly, run in far-flung places, hike mountains, disappear off the beaten track or generally have a habit of doing things that make normal travel seem boring then this info might be helpful.

Travel insurance is far from sexy, but when something goes wrong, having the right policy could make a massive difference to your life.

So, here’s a little about the insurance partner we use and trust, and, increasingly, the one our runners are choosing when they join us on Run Weekends adventures around the world.

When you’re running and exploring all over the world, particularly in the mountains, on remote trails and far from the beaten track, having the right insurance matters considerably more than simply having insurance.

We spent time looking for a provider that actually understood that world. True Traveller stood out.

They’re built for travellers and adventurers, and depending on the policy and Activity Pack you choose, they can cover a pretty extraordinary range of activities:

🏃 Running and marathons
🏃‍♀️ Ultramarathons, including distances up to 250km with the appropriate cover
🥾 Trekking and hiking
⛰️ High-altitude trekking
🧗 Rock climbing and mountaineering
🚵 Mountain biking
🤿 Scuba diving
🏄 Surfing and watersports
❄️ Winter sports
🚁 Medically necessary helicopter rescue with applicable trekking cover
🏥 Emergency medical treatment and repatriation

Their standard Traveller Activity Pack includes 92 activities, and if your adventures get a little more adventurous, there are Adventure, Extreme and Ultimate packs that extend what you’re covered to do. That’s the bit we really like.

Head to the True Traveller website, enter your trip details and get a quote. Check the activities you’ll be doing, add the appropriate Activity Pack or extras, then read the policy wording carefully before purchasing to make sure you’re properly covered.

A lot of our @runweekends guests now use @truetravellerinsurance when joining us around the world, and we’ll be working with them for the foreseeable future.

As some of you may know, I stopped drinking alcohol nearly 10 years ago. Before running took over my life, I worked in finance, and, unsurprisingly, it was a fairly booze-heavy world.

These days, life looks rather different. Running has taken me all over the world, and now, through @runweekends I get to host groups of brilliant people in some pretty special places.

And wherever we are, there’s a familiar rhythm to the days.

They start with a run. Always involve heaps of good food. Theres usually a mountain, plenty of laughs, stunning trails and lots of misadventure somewhere in the middle. And, more often than not they end with everyone sitting around with a beer by a pool, on the edge of a lake, outside a mountain hut, or watching the sun disappear somewhere far from home.

As a non-drinker, I’ve always loved that ritual. I just don’t want the alcohol that comes with it.

And increasingly, neither do lots of the people travelling with us. They want to enjoy a beer at the end of a brilliant day, but they also want to wake up the following morning, pull their running gear back on and feel good enough to do it all again.

Fun fact: did you know that 0.5% booze has less alcohol than a banana 🍌 I know right! Eat enough bananas and you’ll be hammered (or not).

Which is where Proper Job 0.5% has fitted in rather perfectly.

We’ve now been working with @st_austell_brewery for a year, and they’ve kept us very well supplied with 0.5% Proper Jobs along the way.

So this is a thank you for the partnership and, of course, for the beer. But it’s also a particular nod of appreciation to Matt and the team at St Austell Brewery. They’ve supported us because they genuinely like what we’re doing. They believe in getting outside, bringing people together and enabling good adventure, without necessarily needing the hangover afterwards.

That feels like a pretty good fit to me.

Thanks folks. Here’s to plenty more miles, mountains, adventures and beer. 🍻🏃
