IF YOU TRAVEL A LOT, READ THIS 🌍

If you like adventure, travel regularly, run in far-flung places, hike mountains, disappear off the beaten track or generally have a habit of doing things that make normal travel seem boring then this info might be helpful.

Travel insurance is far from sexy, but when something goes wrong, having the right policy could make a massive difference to your life.

So, here’s a little about the insurance partner we use and trust, and, increasingly, the one our runners are choosing when they join us on Run Weekends adventures around the world.

When you’re running and exploring all over the world, particularly in the mountains, on remote trails and far from the beaten track, having the right insurance matters considerably more than simply having insurance.

We spent time looking for a provider that actually understood that world. True Traveller stood out.

They’re built for travellers and adventurers, and depending on the policy and Activity Pack you choose, they can cover a pretty extraordinary range of activities:

🏃 Running and marathons
🏃‍♀️ Ultramarathons, including distances up to 250km with the appropriate cover
🥾 Trekking and hiking
⛰️ High-altitude trekking
🧗 Rock climbing and mountaineering
🚵 Mountain biking
🤿 Scuba diving
🏄 Surfing and watersports
❄️ Winter sports
🚁 Medically necessary helicopter rescue with applicable trekking cover
🏥 Emergency medical treatment and repatriation

Their standard Traveller Activity Pack includes 92 activities, and if your adventures get a little more adventurous, there are Adventure, Extreme and Ultimate packs that extend what you’re covered to do. That’s the bit we really like.

Head to the True Traveller website, enter your trip details and get a quote. Check the activities you’ll be doing, add the appropriate Activity Pack or extras, then read the policy wording carefully before purchasing to make sure you’re properly covered.

A lot of our @runweekends guests now use @truetravellerinsurance when joining us around the world, and we’ll be working with them for the foreseeable future.

As some of you may know, I stopped drinking alcohol nearly 10 years ago. Before running took over my life, I worked in finance, and, unsurprisingly, it was a fairly booze-heavy world.

These days, life looks rather different. Running has taken me all over the world, and now, through @runweekends I get to host groups of brilliant people in some pretty special places.

And wherever we are, there’s a familiar rhythm to the days.

They start with a run. Always involve heaps of good food. Theres usually a mountain, plenty of laughs, stunning trails and lots of misadventure somewhere in the middle. And, more often than not they end with everyone sitting around with a beer by a pool, on the edge of a lake, outside a mountain hut, or watching the sun disappear somewhere far from home.

As a non-drinker, I’ve always loved that ritual. I just don’t want the alcohol that comes with it.

And increasingly, neither do lots of the people travelling with us. They want to enjoy a beer at the end of a brilliant day, but they also want to wake up the following morning, pull their running gear back on and feel good enough to do it all again.

Fun fact: did you know that 0.5% booze has less alcohol than a banana 🍌 I know right! Eat enough bananas and you’ll be hammered (or not).

Which is where Proper Job 0.5% has fitted in rather perfectly.

We’ve now been working with @st_austell_brewery for a year, and they’ve kept us very well supplied with 0.5% Proper Jobs along the way.

So this is a thank you for the partnership and, of course, for the beer. But it’s also a particular nod of appreciation to Matt and the team at St Austell Brewery. They’ve supported us because they genuinely like what we’re doing. They believe in getting outside, bringing people together and enabling good adventure, without necessarily needing the hangover afterwards.

That feels like a pretty good fit to me.

Thanks folks. Here’s to plenty more miles, mountains, adventures and beer. 🍻🏃

The peaks have watched a thousand years,
They’ve outlived triumph, pride and tears.

The forest keeps no count of days,
Nor seeks approval, thanks or praise.

The trails don’t care how far we’ve run,
They simply offer sky and sun.

The wind speaks softly through the pine,
Reminding us that less is fine.

Slow your pace and lift your eyes,
Peace is found where silence lies.

The sun upon my weathered face,
Reminds me life is not a race.

So perhaps I’ll slow to walk awhile,
And greet the world with quiet smile.

Thanks @runweekends

Once more to trails. What a special place this is.

A few lines of thanks to the mountains.

😍🤩

🏃‍♂️ 🏔️ Trail running in the Italian mountains doesn’t get much better than this. A group of 16, blue skies, 20 degrees, no wind, and hours of trails weaving up to our first hut for the night. Such a lovely group.

To the @runweekends team THANK YOU! 🤩 Checkout the trip. Link is in my bio 🔗

Today was day one of our Dolomites Run Weekend, and it reminded me that mountain running is just so special when you share it with lots of lovely people.

We climbed through pine forests, followed winding trails beneath towering limestone peaks, and shared stories over a picnic lunch. Over the next five days we’ll cover around 65km, hopping from mountain hut to mountain hut, carrying everything we need on our backs. Adventure, incredible scenery, and time to reconnect with nature.

The Dolomites has a way of making me never want to leave.

Why do we run?

We all have our reasons.

Some run to get fitter. Some run to get faster. Some run because they’re chasing a finish line, a medal, or a personal best.

Others run because life feels a little easier afterwards.

For me, running has never really been about running. It has been about freedom and peace. It has been about seeing the world one footstep at a time. About adventure. About curiosity. About discovering what happens when you keep putting one foot in front of the other long after your mind tells you to stop.

Running has carried me through every continent, every kind of weather imaginable, and every emotion a human being can experience. It has introduced me to lifelong friends, taken me to places I never knew existed, and taught me lessons no classroom ever could.

It has been there on the best days of my life and some of the hardest.

Over the years I’ve run more than 1,100 marathons, totted up various world records… crossed deserts, mountains, jungles and countries. I’ve watched sunrises from trails in places most people will never visit. I’ve shared miles with strangers who became friends and friends who became family.

And yet, despite all of that, the thing I love most about running is that it remains beautifully simple.
A pair of shoes.A little bit of time. And the opportunity to move. And indeed the ability to move we all take for granted.

Today is Global Running Day, and I’m grateful that something so simple has given me so much.

A huge thank you to the team at Brooks too for supporting the adventures, the miles, the stories and the dreams along the way. I’ve been proud to wear their shoes and gear across countless countries and adventures, and I’m excited for many more miles together.

Happy Global Running Day.
Keep running. Keep exploring. Keep saying yes to the adventure.

Question for the comments:

I’ve written down every single mile I’ve ever run. How many miles do you think I’ve run in my lifetime?

Ps the link to my book is in my bio.

What a weekend. 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏔️ 🌍

The Dolomites @runweekends have officially become something truly special. 🏔️✨ Join us in 2026

20 incredible runners came together in the heart of the mountains. This group are brilliant. From winding singletrack to panoramic ridgelines, the trails were nothing short of exceptional… and the views? Unreal. Every step brought something new: jagged peaks, lush alpine meadows, hidden valleys, and that magical Dolomite light that hits just right at golden hour. 🌄

But what made it unforgettable wasn’t just the scenery, it was of course the people. This community is growing into something rare: kind, considerate, gentle, and fun as hell. We ran together, climbed together, cheered each other on, and shared stories over warm, communal meals in cosy mountain huts that felt like home. 🛖🔥

From sunrises made the early starts worth it, the hilly runs and hikes and late night laughs under the stars. This was more than just running, it was connection, nature, challenge, and pure joy. The weather held out beautifully (thank you, mountains and Mother Nature 🙏), and our team? Absolutely solid, organised, welcoming, and just all around legends.💪

There’s something about these weekends, about pushing yourself just enough, in wild landscapes, surrounded by people who care. Thank you everyone so much. It’s an honour to hang out with you all in the mountains.

We’re heading home with sore legs, full hearts, and already dreaming of the next one.

If you’ve been thinking about joining: do it. You’ll leave with memories, friendships, and a deeper love for the trail than ever before. Yes this is my company, something that I built, but if it wasn’t, id still be shouting about it. I’m proud of what my exceptional team have created. We now have 41 events around the world. More coming.
