Prayer matters. This post is NOT for show or recognition. This post is to highlight the importance of prayer and why it has changed my life.

In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul was writing to the church in Thessalonica, which were new believers living in the city of Thessalonica in Macedonia (modern-day northern Greece).

He says—> “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Pray without ceasing”, shows that prayer is so important, that we should never stop praying. A practical way to pray without ceasing is to think of prayer as having a conversation with God. God isn’t looking for lofty language, he is looking for a heart posture of surrender, dependence, and trust in Him.

For example, my team & I pray before every practice & game. This helps us center our hearts & minds on what matters most. This sets us FREE from anxiety, pressure, and the fear of failure (Philippians 4:6-7) . We pray to posture our hearts & minds in such a way that leaves the results up to God through surrender of the game & trust in him.

—> “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by PRAYER and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

An amazing journey of a baseball career has come to an end & I am still fulfilled thanks to Jesus Christ! I am grateful for every challenge throughout my career, each team, individual teammate, and coach. Most of all, I am grateful for the realization at a point in my career that baseball is a great game, but it makes a bad a god. Only in Jesus Christ have I found my full, eternal identity in the one true God! by @nickguidas

Who are you surrounding yourself with? Mark 2:1-5 gives an account of a paralytic man’s friends who go to extreme lengths to get him to Jesus because they knew Jesus could heal their friend. They go to such great lengths that when they could not get to Jesus because it was so crowded, they tore the roof off the building Jesus was in and lowered their paralytic friend down to Jesus. Are you surrounded by men (or woman) that will at all costs carry you to Jesus?

In my life, having men that I know at all costs will encourage me, tell me the truth, and most importantly point me to Jesus if I’m going down the wrong path has improved my life and relationship with Jesus exponentially. These men in my life are called my “mat carriers”.

I would encourage you, if you have not found some already, to get some mat carriers in your life. Being surrounded by men and women who will “carry your mat” to Jesus no matter the circumstance will positively impact your life!

‭‭Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”” by @nickguidas

Believing that this is the year the Buccos return to the postseason!

Surrender everything to God because it is all His in the first place.

This can be tough, especially if it is something you work really hard for. For example, in athletics it is easy to take all the glory & accolades for yourself & not give it to God, and on the contrary take all the failure & stress and put it all on your shoulders. But, when you follow Jesus you realize that God created EVERYTHING & everything you have is from Him! So that means every breath in training, every step on the field, & every gift that makes you good is given to you intentionally by God. So, when you realize that none of it is yours in the first place, it makes it easier to surrender it to Him. Also, when you fail you can be free from the stress and heaviness that comes with it because you trust God with the process (**this doesn’t make it “easy”, but it sets you free from the heaviness of it).

In John 3:30, John the Baptist basically says, “It’s not about me, it’s about Jesus.” Taking on this perspective has allowed me to see that I am able to experience the fullness of what God has for me in every circumstance if I take away my selfish desires & focus on Jesus. The more I decrease, the more Jesus increases. This does not guarantee a perfect performance or everything to go my way, but it gives me peace because I know I am on His path, not my own so I can trust it! This is where true peace & fulfillment is.

If you don’t know Jesus & want to or don’t know where to start I would love to talk to you. DM me👍🏼 by @nickguidas

I wanted to share something I have been learning as I grow closer with God. One of my mentors drew this awesome visual out that has impacted my decision making immensely! In the world, it’s so easy to feel, act, then think afterwards…. Usually leading to poor decisions that are not in alignment with God’s word or design for us.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to be led by the Holy Spirit, which gives us “kingdom vision”. This calls us to think first (seeking God with what decision or response aligns most with his word), then act on that, then feel after. Of course, I am far from perfect at doing this. But, the more I default to God’s word & God’s spirit, over my own fleshly instincts, I receive peace & clarity.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:33–> “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” by @nickguidas

I used to think God didn’t care about baseball.

The fact of the matter is, He does. I have been learning that He created each of us for different callings & just because you are called to something in this current season of life doesn’t mean you won’t be called to something else in another season of life. But, no matter what our calling in a specific season of life is, as followers of Christ, our primary calling is to love God & love people. I’ve found a key piece to living that out is knowing scripture, which is the sword of the spirit (Ephesians 6:16-17). As children of God, whatever we are called to, we can walk in it, equipped & ready to be used by God. So, as my teammates and I prepare for this baseball season (that God does actually care about😂) we are clinging to the word of God to help us persevere and live out our current calling as baseball players. by @nickguidas

On the cross Jesus said, “tetelestai” which means “it is finished.” Although we will face tribulation in our lives, we can have courage, because Jesus already won!

So this means we can have courage to endure our tribulations and take steps God is calling us to in our life, despite feeling scared.

If you don’t know Jesus yet, the truth is he desires a relationship with you. I want to encourage you to take a step to get to know him. I would love to talk to you about him! by @nickguidas
