Last night will be remembered as The First One of many. Thank you for joining us and for supporting the first-fruits of a work that began over 10 years ago.

We had the privilege of introducing our very first orchestra member and violinist, Makala. She boldly and powerfully shared her story, her perspective from experiencing homelessness in NYC, and her dreams for not just her own musicianship but also for being a mentor to our future orchestra members.

It is because of your support that we were able to surprise her with a high quality violin that she will own at the end of her six months of training with us.

We have an anonymous donor who will match every gift up to a total of $10k through Monday, October 13. Your dollars are doubled until the cap is reached.

Before I write a single note, I begin with a visual map: an abstract blueprint of the form, dynamics, and instrumentation.

I call this Prolegomenon Technique, meaning the “discussion before the discussion”

It reads like a timeline, unfolding from one place to another, placing musical ideas in space before they take shape in sound.

It’s not exactly precise by design. It is a frame for momentum, a sketch of the sandbox I work within.

Thoroughly excited to unveil my work as the creative partner for the launch of Noah Wellness’ new tea blend series.

Three fruit-forward, caffeine-free blends designed to match the rhythm of the day: tangerine, lychee, and persimmon. Functional herbs for morning clarity, afternoon focus, and deep rest at night.

This Saturday at 7pm at Goyo in Greenpoint, we’re premiering Tea Motif: an intimate listening experience engineered closely with Noah Wellness to last an hour. Each blend is brewed in three styles and paired with an original composition I wrote for the series that combines electronic music and live performance. A live musician will add their own interpretation through a guided improvisational (“aleatoric”) score.

Had an incredible opportunity to work with @danielficarri and @xingyuli0213 to compose a piece that aimed to concisely illustrate a story of perseverance. Recorded at Church of St. Paul the Apostle to soak in all that reverb and hear it on a true pipe organ.

Huge honor to score such a beautiful, award winning short film by the brilliant @joandwiartanto

Here is an excerpt from it that shows off my goal to partner with the visual narrative by borrowing elements from it for my score. You’ll hear clanging plates and metallic utensils, then the score shifts to a more foreign texture (again, partnering with the narrative) that changes slowly as tension builds.

It took me years to reset after unbelievable burnout. I would tell people I was a composer but have no recent work to show for it. That season has finally come to an end.

While I begin work on something that I hope will help other composers get out of the same place, I’m excited to share the first of a series of short excerpts of my music, spanning concert premieres, multimedia collaborations, and conceptual experiments. Link in bio.
