Late to the party, but never too late to celebrate:

Congratulations to @sosaidvictoria on the release of her fifth novel, The Love Variations! It was such a pleasure to co-narrate this story alongside @domsalvacion, who does a wonderful job bringing Goldie to life. And Jamie… when you listen, you’ll hear why there were moments I wanted to shake some sense into him, and others where I just wanted to give him a hug! šŸŽ¹

Summary: Goldie Gensler has always dreamed of becoming a concert pianist like her parents, but after a devastating multiple sclerosis diagnosis, winning the world’s most prestigious piano competition in Stockholm feels more urgent than ever. Her biggest rival is Jamie Larson, a technically brilliant musician from small-town Iowa who resents Goldie’s seemingly effortless path into the elite music world. While Jamie believes discipline and precision define greatness, Goldie’s emotionally raw performances challenge everything he values. But when the two are unexpectedly forced to live and practice together over the holidays, their rivalry begins to turn into something far more complicated.

I truly loved being part of this project, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life.

Back in October, I had the chance to join nine other incredible individuals for the week-long @physical_lab retreat. While I was mostly there to offer support, I also had the opportunity to participate as an actor and dive into my own creative research.

It has been nearly a decade since I’ve done any kind of serious performing, and stepping back into it was intimidating. But thanks to a supportive community and the incredible care of @yorgoskaramalegos, I felt like acting was something I could ease back into.

Here is the final take on my work with a monologue from Tony Kushner’s Angels in America. A huge thank you to Yorgos for his ability to see each individual and recognize what they need in every moment in order to reveal their truest self.

This is just the first step of many to getting back to where I belong. ā™„ļø

I’m so late in sharing this, but better late than never.

Back in December, I found out I’d be joining 22 incredibly talented artists as part of this year’s @prhaudio Narrator Mentorship Program. To say I’m excited doesn’t quite cover it.

Books have always been a constant in my life. They’ve shaped me, comforted me, and challenged me. Getting to bring stories to life—especially the ones that resonate deeply—brings me a lot of joy. Storytelling is meaningful to me, and I’m grateful for the chance to convey that with my voice.

I don’t know exactly where this mentorship will lead, but I’m showing up ready to learn, to stretch, to explore, and to make the most of it.

And one of the best parts so far has been the people. The other mentees are not only incredibly talented, but generous and genuinely supportive. There’s a real sense that one person’s win is everyone’s win—and that’s exactly the kind of creative community I want to be part of.

And who knows—maybe one day I’ll be narrating one of your favorite books!

C’mon 2026—we’re here and we’re ready! šŸ”„ by @nickpollifrone

Love You To Death
by Christina Dotson

āļøāļøāļøāļø 4/5

Summary: Best friends Kayla and Zorie are on the run after a last ditch effort to make a few extra bucks turns deadly. Now dubbed the ā€œWedding Crasher Killers,ā€ the pair flee in hopes of building a new life—but can they outrun the consequences and the unspoken truths that linger between them? And just how far are they willing to go for each other’s friendship?

——

I recently finished listening to @christinadotsonwrites debut novel, Love You To Death, and what a fun ride this was. Brilliantly narrated by my girl @_renikadanielle, I can’t recommend this title enough! Every chapter was packed with a turn of events that take best friends Kayla and Zorie from the suburbs of Atlanta to the backstreets of New Orleans—each one leaving you waiting to find out what happens next.

It’s a stellar debut, and a thriller worth reading/listening! Find it now in a bookstore near your or wherever you listen to audiobooks.

The Emperor of Gladness
by Ocean Vuong

āļøāļøāļøāļøĀ½ 4.5/5

Summary: Based in the fictional town of East Gladness, Connecticut, The Emperor of Gladness centers around Hai, a young Vietnamese-American man in his early twenties. When we first meet Hai, he’s at his lowest, and the decision to take his life is swiftly interrupted by an elderly Lithuanian woman by the name of Grazina. Pressed together by life’s circumstances, the two form a fast bond—each needing the other for various reasons. Grazina needs a caretaker and Hai needs someone to help tether him back down. Their story unfolds in myriad unexpected ways, with a supporting cast of characters each infused with their own quirks and views on life. But through it all is a parallel drawn between two people whose lives couldn’t be more seemingly opposite—a young man managing grief and addiction and a woman whose dementia sends her hurtling back to memories of escaping her home country during the Second World War. Each of them displaced, each of them in search of the people they’ve lost or forgiveness for the mistakes they’ve made.

——

One question I love asking fellow book readers is: ā€œWhat is a book you can’t stop thinking about?ā€ As opposed to asking about someone’s favorite (which could be for various reasons), asking which book they can’t stop thinking about means that something resonates with them well beyond the pages. And these are the kinds of stories I’m drawn to as a reader/listener.

To answer my own question, @ocean_vuong’s The Emperor of Gladness is a book I can’t stop thinking about. It is beautifully told (and narrated by @jamesaaronoh), and every bit worth the read/listen.

So, what’s a book you can’t stop thinking about?

Don’t Let the Forest In
by C.G. Drews

āļøāļøāļø 3/5

Summary: At the book’s center is Andrew, a high school senior who attends Wickwood Academy along with his twin sister Dove. Completing the trio is Thomas, the haphazard, misunderstood artist type who Andrew is infatuated with despite there being some history between Thomas and his sister. The three of them have returned to school for their final year, but even at the start, things are not going well. Something from Andrew’s past is haunting him—a secret held until the eleventh hour—and Thomas is suspected of murdering his own parents. However, nothing becomes more pressing than the monsters they discover in the forest near school—monsters that Andrew writes about in his stories and Thomas illustrates to life.

While I ultimately didn’t find the plot to be as satisfying as I’d hoped, that doesn’t mean this book is without its merit. Author C.G. Drews is a talented writer and despite losing interest in the story here and there, I always found the prose to be poetic and strong. Notably, their descriptions of the forest and its elements really stood out. Every time it crept off the pages and came to life in a way that felt like you could feel, smell, and taste it.

Here’s another article I dug up from 2018 on the importance of representation in all mediums, but especially superheroes.

ā€œAnd that is really what this is about—seeing yourself. Not only portrayed as an average civilian, but as the protagonist. A superhero. We all need to be told—and then reminded—we are magical. All of us. Regardless of gender or skin tone or who we grow to love. We need to be taught that we are not just the ones who need to be saved—even though that is the only story we’ve been told—but that we are the heroes, too. We are deserving of super-human strength, weather control, and casting levitation spells. We are deserving of more than just sitting on the sidelines, or absent from the game altogether.ā€

This is from article I had written back in 2018 entitled The Things I Carry.

I’ve been revisiting my old writing lately. It’s been a great way to earmark who I was and who I’m becoming.

ā€œOvercoming my shame and insecurity will be the greatest work I do in this lifetime. It will be more important than whatever career I maintain or achievements I receive. Because on some base level, a part of me may always feel I am undeserving. In fact, trying to free myself of my shame has become so much of a personal endeavor that I have built a career out of it. I’ve put myself in positions of subservience hoping the validation and approval of others will alleviate me from needing to do it for myself. It is a cycle, or rather, more like an equation—if people love the work that I do, then that must mean I’m valued, and if I’m valued, then that must mean that I really do have something to contribute to this world despite adverse opinion.ā€

BOOK REVIEW

āļøāļøāļøāļø 4.2/5

Sebastian and Elethior, the novel’s two male leads, are wizards in the competitive departments of Evocation and Conjuration at Lesiara University. Though they begin as frought enemies, an unexpected turn of events forces them to work together on a grant project. Sebastian and Elethior’s time in the lab soon has them tearing at each other’s clothes and old wounds.

I found myself thoroughly enjoying this novel. I tagged a bunch of scenes as fun moments that might be worth narrating. (I did record one, which you can find as part of this post on my blog.) But I soon forgot the overall task and fell into the story itself. The first third of the book had me quickly turning each page, hungrily awaiting the moment Sebastian and Elethior would finally kiss (very nicely written, by the way). I also wondered what would come of Orok, Sebastian’s rawball-playing, half-giant roommate, and whether his involvement might shake up the romance between the two leads.
