Fitness is beyond the physical. 📝

When you think of “fitness,” you probably think of your physical capabilities, cardiovascular system, and maybe, your body composition. To me, it’s much more than that…

“Fitness” is a general term for your over all state of well-being and that isn’t just made up by the physical. The way I see it is like having different buckets that you are filling up each day that make up your fitness as a whole. There are many buckets you could identify, but here a few that come to my mind:

🧠 Mental health | Doing things to keep your mind healthy each day…to find awareness. (Journaling, meditation, reading, etc)

🤍 Emotional Health | The ability to be vulnerable, be open to conversations and connecting. (This can go hand in hand with “mental health” but, to me, is even deeper)

☕️ Gut Health | Your gut is your second brain and is responsible for producing GOOD bacteria to improve immune system and cognitive health. (A simple way for me is drinking @kettleandfire bone broth each day)

💰 Financial Health | Staying on top of our responsibilities, planning, and executing for the compound effect.

🤝 Interpersonal Health | You are who you hang around. The environment, the community, and who you interact with become a massive piece of the person you are becoming.

🏋️ Physical Health | The obvious, but not the only priority. (Aim for 30 minutes of movement a day…no matter what it is) by @nickwalkerfitness

3 Focuses for Building Muscle 👌🏼

With all of the running the last year and the running that will continue, I am actively building back muscle and continuing to add strength to my program. For reference, I trained for 8 months to run 100 miles and didn’t lose a pound at 235lb until race day…where I burned 15,000+ calories. 😂

Here are my 3 simple rules:

1. Utilize Progressive Overload 💪 | Essentially, increase the weight each set and lift HEAVY. There is one additional point here…you MUST track your weights/sets/reps each workout to continue progressing

2. Supplement According to Goals 🏋️ | One of the supplements I love most is @vitaminshoppe BodyTech Elite Phosphatidic Acid + Peptide (basically, a cellular trigger to activate mTOR which is your body’s master switch for muscle growth)

3. Track Protein / Nutrition 🥩 | I always recommend 1g of protein per 1lb of body weight. Naturally, when tracking protein, you’ll be lower in carbs and higher in good fats so adjust carbs (for me, it is rice/fruit/veggies/honey) according to your lifestyle

Optimization is more than the training. 👌🏼

Sure, countless miles and endless calories to replenish the body are a part of training to run 100 miles at altitude…but one thing I haven’t talked much about is going BEYOND the training and diet plan.

It doesn’t matter if you’re running 100 miles or racing any event you are training for. I FIRMLY believe we should all be looking at what’s on the inside…at how our bodies are functioning “under the hood.” After all, every person’s body is different so there is no one size fits all solution. ❌

I didn’t do this until I was 26 (I’m 30 now) and have worked with different companies/teams to get my blood tested, go deeper on the symptoms of daily life, and ultimately I kept coming to the same place…no one truly gave a one on one experience.

Leading up to Leadville, over 8 months, I have been working with @velocity_health on a TRUE concierge basis…people checking in on me, people scheduling appointments for me, people reviewing results, making plans, and executing on what they say they are going to do. ✅

Optimizing your overall health is more than just “take this supplement.” To me, it’s learning from people that care and understanding how to apply that knowledge to your own lifestyle…whatever that may be.

I cannot harp on the importance of blood work, optimizing your health, and working with a true team that has your best interests in mind no matter what life throws at you and no one has done that better than my team @velocity_health 🙌🏼

(Shoot me a message if you have questions on the process)

A little bit of life lifin’ 🏝️

Building the fitness, building the business (@1441collective), building community, and building the self.

It’s a minute by minute decision. Grateful. 🙏

The power of the future lies within your routine. 💭

I’ve always been a huge advocate of having a morning routine and the discipline it brings to everyday life. My routine has changed over the years and it will continue to change. Your routine doesn’t have to be extravagant…you just have to find what works for you and commit to stacking every day’s choice to win the interval voice telling you not to. 👌🏼

My routine lately: hygiene, @kettleandfire bone broth (gut health in the morning is essential), journal/read/meditate, run and/or workout

Long days (& nights) in Leadville call for good, real fuel.

After taking on the Leadville Trail 100 Run this August, Nick Walker spent plenty of time putting in the work at 10,000 feet, and naturally, Kettle & Fire is part of his recovery routine.

Their bone broth packs 19g of protein, natural collagen, and electrolytes into every cup, making it an easy way to refuel after a big day in the mountains. by @nickwalkerfitness

Boston, you are a cool city. 🍂🚣🏻

Family time, the Head of the Charles, and exploring the beauty of Cambridge. What a cool weekend getting to support my cousin rowing at Harvard and the insane energy around the event. 🙌🏼

Energy is contagious…surround yourself with what you want to feel. And don’t forget to smile. 😄

The little person in you would be proud. 🤍

We all have a story and we are all just living our unique, learned experience. Sometimes, we forget the little person inside is always there…smiling at the person you are becoming.
