In the most recent edition of Dance Forum (South Korea), Kim Hyemi considers contemporary works that engage with the body and movement, namely Corporéalités' (2020) by Jesper Just, raising questions about the coupling of body and technology as well as issues of subjectivity that dance and media art might explore together. The essay titled "The Mobilized Body, the Still Body" (동원되는 몸, 정지하는 몸) is available to read in Korean or English – link in bio.

Opening tonight, October 9 – 'The Moon, Slightly Late', a solo exhibition by the Berlin-based artist Cornelia Baltes.

@corneliabaltes

In her third solo exhibition at Galleri Nicolai Wallner, Baltes presents a series of new paintings in her highly technically refined approach.

Her playful images come from an extensive process of looking and thinking, pondering and turning over, images flipped around, turned inside out and upside down over and over again. The apparent easiness of Baltes' works is a performance of the painting, a black box of innumerable layers and perfected techniques. This effortful irony works to illustrate the act of seeing itself – a process rarely as straightforward as it feels. The eye scans, the mind fills in what is missing, and memory and expectation shape what we take to be in front of us. Her paintings make a play on this process, interrupting its easy flow. Remembered fragments of her surroundings are pared back and enlarged until they tip between the recognisable and the abstract, the particular and the metaphorical. Reducing an image to its essentials sharpens our attention rather than diminishing it.
