The hustle meets the canvas. Honored to be featured in the Ghanaian Times for my solo exhibition, Apampam Store . Check it out! #GhanaianTimes #ArtExhibition #AccraHustle #SupportLocalArtists by @nicowayo

*”Life Savers In Traffic”*

In Accra, traffic doesn’t stop time — it moves. On heads, on trays, in buckets balanced with grace.

We call them hawkers. I call them life savers.

When hunger hits in go-slow, when water runs out, when the day feels wasted between Circle and Kaneshie . Accra and madina— they appear. Sobolo, kelewele, groundnuts, fan yogi, drinks , meat pie, yam, bags, plantain chips etc.

Society looks past them. I look at them.

This work archives their hustle as art. They don’t just sell in traffic. They save us in traffic. (How do you see them?) by @nicowayo

Attended @nicowayo solo exhibition, Life Savers in Traffic, and loved how he turned an everyday scene into art. The concept of Apampam Store, meaning “shop on the head” captures the resilience of hawkers who carry their goods through Accra’s busy streets. Beyond the hustle are stories of survival, determination and humanity. Thank you for having me 💙 by @nicowayo

APAMPAM STORE
Society Looks Past Them. I Look at Them

In his first solo exhibition, Wayo turns his attention to Accra's street vendors - the people we encounter every day, yet barely see.

Working on discarded jute sacks, Wayo transforms the everyday lives of vendors into powerful studies of labour, ingenuity, survival, dignity and visibility. The sacks themselves carry histories too - of commodities, movement, trade and exchange - becoming both artistic surfaces and archives.
