Just a lil’ fun, y’all. You know we love you. Reach out with intention to dealers whose program makes sense with what you’re creating. Do some research and find their names, the ✨correct✨ spelling of their names, and ensure you like what they’re doing. 90% of my independent curating and gallery program is photography, so are you sure I’m the best fit to move your work?

Also, if you’ve got an attitude, miss me with that. I cannot believe the amount of artists who trash their current dealers who bring them to fairs. Artists I’ve never met were sayin’ the most. I love every artist I choose to work with and hope the feeling is mutual. It’s a relationship! I emphasize self awareness in every class I teach. Use it! 😘

“Work v. Play,” 2026 by @markliamsmith will be premiered next week during @chicagoartfair, at @themartchicago.

treat gallery is pleased to participate in the inaugural edition of Chicago Art Fair.

In Mark Liam Smith’s ongoing Life Paint series, he has imagined that the paint tubes contain experiences, emotions, and attributes rather than pigment. These metaphorical pigments that are available to us end up determining what the paintings of our lives look like.

Select tubes from the 1st edition, initially launched in 2021, quickly sold out after its premiere.

In select series, the paint tubes may be flipped to signify which emotion may be dominating at any given time. Smith continues to experiment and push boundaries on what the “Handmade Life Experiences,” may be - a note often appearing on the tubes, above his signature. When viewed with intention, the audience is awarded and will see the tubes give nod to the emotion their label bears.

Order v. Chaos,” 2025 (second slide, sold out) show a pristine bottle, barely touched, new and shiny, v. the Chaotic tube with the cap missing, messy and disoriented.

“Hope” and “Faith” (3rd and 4th Slides, sold out) are almost used up; while “Grit”, (5th slide, sold out) despite a missing cap, still has pigment left and in view.

“Glamour,” (6th slide,) a commission for Nordstrom, shows the tube with an hourglass figure, complete with spotlight. Smith’s work can be found in hundreds of public and private collections, most notably, Delta Airlines acquired 21 pieces from his Life Paint series for their NYC-based Delta Sky Club in JFK Airport (7th slide.)

For Chicago Art Fair, Smith will be debuting a City Series, starting with Chicago, (8th slide) available in a limited edition of 10.

Yayoi Kusama 1929 - 2026

In the middle of grad school, I realized my calling was art dealing and curatorial work. I love creating, but an internship solidified my future career interests. While on an interview in 2012 in Phoenix, the search committee brought me to a museum where I first saw Yayoi Kusama’s work. This was my first time seeing one of her infinity rooms, and it was mind-blowing. 6 years later I’d waited outside Zwirner for hours to see her latest show, and today I woke up to the sad news of her passing.

Kusama was troubled, but persevered and continued to inspire and innovate through her many outlets of creativity. Yayoi Kusama did so much for our field, for women, for those struggling in any physical or mental capacity. May her legacy live on. ✨🔴⚪️
