The National Innovation Foundation–India (NIF), in collaboration with Uttar Dinajpur Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Bengal, organised a one-day training programme on 14 October 2026 to promote the cultivation of the RTB-16 Improved Mustard Variety, developed by grassroots innovator Shri Rajkumar Jain from Rajasthan.

The programme was conducted in the presence of Dr. Surajit Sarkar, Senior Scientist and Head, Uttar Dinajpur KVK, along with Dr. Anjali Sharma, Subject Matter Specialist, and Dr. Debasis Mahata, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy). NIF-India officials also interacted with farmers and facilitated knowledge-sharing sessions on the improved mustard variety.

Twenty farmers from different villages of Uttar Dinajpur district participated in the programme to learn about the variety’s cultivation potential and its scope for improving agricultural productivity and strengthening farmers’ livelihoods.

As part of this initiative, each participating farmer received 1.125 kg of RTB-16 mustard seeds for conducting participatory on-farm trials (OFTs). These trials will help evaluate the variety’s performance under local agro-climatic conditions and gather valuable feedback from farmers.

This initiative highlights the National Innovation Foundation–India’s continued commitment to identifying, validating, and disseminating grassroots innovations through collaboration with agricultural institutions. By promoting farmer participation and field-level evaluation, the programme aims to contribute to sustainable agriculture, improved productivity, and enhanced rural livelihoods.
