This is the one.

The labor of love.
The gift that came from grief.
 The byproduct of picking up broken pieces
and sitting silently to listen to stories that weren’t mine.

Examining the beauty within our cultural nuances
learning to see through a lens that is more loving.

The words within these pages
will help rebuild what’s broken within the world.
 They will quite literally usher in Shalom—a peace that doesn’t come without conflict.

One that requires examining
and understanding our internal worlds
and redeeming any wrongs with neighbors,
through viewing them rightly.

If you’ve been burnt by the church... If you’re spiritually wandering... If you want to be challenged in your faith...
 If you need to know more about the nature of God because the people who have represented him may have gotten it wrong…

I tell people all the time: I don’t have answers, I have ideas.

Most of us know hundreds of people and are known by very few.

We’ve become fluent in the small gestures of connection. The post. The text. The “how are you?” offered without stopping for the answer.

[Real] community asks for something slower. The name of the cook in the kitchen at the place you love. The neighbor three doors down. The man on your block the rest of the street has learned to look past.

Presence is a daily practice, kept in moments no one will ever applaud. Its measure is how well we know the few already in front of us.

This week, learn one name. Someone you see often and have never spoken to. Ask, then remember it.

Up first—Atlanta’s literary festival, where readers, writers, creators, and community come together for a day and week of books, culture, and connection! The real joy is getting to sit on a panel and share a mic with my friend @jawn_o.

There is a cost to not thinking critically.

Staying comfortable (and incompetent) in the way we view the world may feel like we are being “passionate” about our beliefs and worldview, but in reality, we may be closing ourselves off from understanding the nuance and depth of who God is THROUGH our differences

If we want to move humanity forward and become who we were truly Called to be, we have to embrace curiosity, seek nuance, and remain willing to learn from people who experience the world differently than we do.
