This piece is on decolonizing the tongue, inspired by “Decolonising the Mind” by Ngugi wa Thiong’o.

This post explores linguistics, decolonization and colonization. Using European languages has been used as a means to forge the sword that would give freedom. Some were even praised for their eloquence, a pseudo-knighthood for their literary mastery given unto them by the same colonialists that subjugated them. As such, the pen and sword become one. Or do they?

Osas (@osasmusic) bottles a lifetime of emotion into a 20-minute hourglass with Wish We Had More Time, his new EP.

Osas is a singer, songwriter and Afro-R&B artist from Southeast London whose artistry sits at the sonic border between contemporary R&B, Afrobeats, and Afro-soul. Deeply inspired by themes of love, nostalgia, his mellifluous voice carries those emotions through in his new EP, Wish We Had More Time.

As his music gains recognition from artists like Dave, Jim Legxacy and Gabzy, Osas remains focused on building something lasting – his own community, one song at a time.

Wish We Had More Time bottles a entire lifetime of emotion into a 20-minute hourglass. Time bends and warps, mirroring the distortion of moments spent with someone you love. It slips away like sand through your fingers.

Across its six tracks, Osas sets a time and a place for each chapter of his love-laced chronicle to unfold. We hear the humming saxophones, highlife-inspired guitars lines and meticulously layered percussion.
